I think the “tip” he got was the goddamn choppers coming to arrest him since he tossed the phone in full view of them based on most accounts.
I think there is plenty of stuff to get him on without going on a wild goose chase for a leaker who probably doesn’t exist.

That's a pure assumption. Had another officer tipped him off his phone would have been long gone way before the LBI surrounded him. They literally saw him toss it in the water as they closed in. Watch COPS. This happens all the time.

Link? I haven't seen anything that says he was tipped off. If he was tipped off, why would he wait to destroy his phone until they showed up?

the fact is the State was handling the investigation from its inception, they put together warrants for him and for her and he did not know they were coming until the LSP and LBI showed up in Toledo Bend. They arrested him in public and then picked her up the next morning at her house
so that is pretty big indicator there were no leaks

Special agents with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation contacted Perkins about the child pornography investigation that day and Perkins agreed over the phone to meet with them, the documents state.
He then admitted during an in-person interview that that he had tossed his cellphone off a bridge while he was en route to speak with the special agents. The District Attorney's office documents refer to Perkins' cellphone as a "key piece of evidence."
