It is time to reset life and set a course for the future based upon my wants and needs.

Our family and my mom always loved camping and having an RV to go places. So I now have a new 28 ft 5th wheel (a gift from "Santa, lol) which I thought would be a smart investment as I did not want to get an apartment and then move again after that and I was single.

Although it was just me alone when I got the RV I am now in a very committed relationship and SO is about to retire and he loves this RV life too.

(Yes, he will do all the driving, )

Has anyone else had experiences with living the RV life or owning one to vacation and travel in? Any advice, stories to share or ideas on bucket list places to go?

*insert obligatory "$hitters full" meme.

I'd do an Airstream in a heartbeat. And beat up anyone who wants some where I park.

When I was about 12, my parents bought an RV and we went as a family to the Grand Canyon. Sold it a couple years after that.

After all the miles and KOA campgrounds, I can pinpoint that trip as the reason I fly everywhere I travel.

Just cause your family was 'tarded, doesn't mean everyone's is.

I watched a few episodes of that promised land show with the family in the airstream. Does that count?

We know how these go with you.

Who do you have on the hook now? Another old man? Another love of your life?

I have a weird Aunt that lives in one 24/7 365 days a year.

They have a PO Box in Seattle. They just go wherever their mood takes them. Every couple of years they pop up in Memphis and call my parents to take them out to dinner.

I have looked at buying one for vacations, but keep getting veto'd.

There is a gentleman named Butch that posts here that can probably share his experiences with you.

I am nowhere near my 60, lol!! Neither are my neighbors at this resort. Some are actually people who travel for work or work from home as they travel.

So this isnt your typical retirement type story. Honestly, based upon my health, i don't know if I will even make it to my 60's so retirement fun begins now for me.

"Yes it looks so nice parked in the driveway."

"Sure does, but don't you go falling in love with it now, cause we're taking it with us when we leave next month."

I live in North Alabama and I am pretty sure there is no such place as Miuntain Lakes Resort in Guntersville.

Sorry lady, no way.

That (moving an RV or travel trailer) sounds like work to me.

If I woke up one morning in Oregon in my own RV, I'd immediately sell it there and fly home rather than face the arduous task of piloting a huge rolling box for 1,300 miles of moronic texting drivers.

Then there's the people you meet RV-ing:

Having to interact with the folks that I know who have RVs (almost without exception) sounds ghastly to me.

My fellow clientele at the hotels I stay at generally aren't seen or heard.

I return the favor to them.

Staying at a hotel is (for me) means to an end, not the end in and of itself.

There are exceptions at (for example) Zion NP or Yellowstone but generally I don't mix hotels with touristing.
