I'm looking at houseboats right now. Really want to pull the trigger.

I can get a bad arse one for 70-80k and it only costs 350 a month for a slip and that include water sewage trash and electric

That sounds awesome. I love the story of "Atchafalaya Houseboat" and read a memoir of life on Lake Henderson by a yankee couple who came to visit and ended up buying into the houseboat life. It's a cool, quirky community indeed. I know they houseboat communities up around Seattle as well and I love looking at them.

What kind of houseboat are you looking to get? I'd love to see pics or hear more about it.

I know it isn't easy for people, who have trouble getting pregnant or can't get pregnant. I am not going to post a long story, but I think it is a low blow for someone to bring that up, hopefully you don't let it get to you.

If this current dude doesn't work out, the poster known as Butch is an avid RV'er and will probably marry you. --

You're one of the few female posters he hasn't already married.

LOL, didnt you read the part about me and my TMI?

But seriously, it started with multiple surgeries including severely botched surgery that left me on deaths door for about a year. Even then i figured i would bounce back and tried to go back to work and then developed issues with passing out/seizures so that left teaching and driving as no longer possible.

I have been so sickly since then, off and on with odd symptoms and come to find out that a majority of it is due to MS. But at least I know what I am dealing with now instead of all these mysterious random symptoms. But MS is manageable and I am so glad to have finally gotten the problem figured out.

Edit, forgot to answer question about fiance. He had symptoms of hemochromatosis, unexplained fevers, multiple issues and then finally a large fast growing tumor. he was in the midst of getting treatment for that when he died suddenly in the middle of the night from a seizure due to all of that. So i feel odd saying it was a specific thing as it was quite a number of contributing factors.

As this was in the aftermath of Katrina, medical care in new orleans was a nightmare. Finding a decent doctor and getting an apt or a hospital bed was hard to do.

Such a SJW. Nurse has been here a long time and we're friends. She was here when the OT and the Lith tailgates were awesome

If I get an RV, I'll probably swing by your place for a beer in between visiting Atz Lee and his sister and going to Browntown.

btw, Browntown is the gayest sounding name for a town, ever.

I lived in a camper of one sort or another for 25 years for work.
You need to be a grown man.
Easy it really isn't... (if you have a home to keep up as well)
If not, then just throw the money away and live it up!

Ww would love to make our way to Alaska one day. i would hope we could take the ferry from Washington to AK because the thought of doing the AlCan Hwy again is not appealing.

If given the choice, i would love to spend every summer in Alaska and winter here in Louisiana or traveling. I just love Alaska so much and the spirit of independence and individuality in many people there. There is so much beauty to see there.

I figure we will have to learn to "boondock" and have a camper that is completely self sufficient in case there are no campgrounds where we may stop for the night. Our ultimate goal is to be able to be self sufficient like that and use our generator and fresh water tanks and propane.

My parents had a big RV and used the heck out of it. They joined one of the groups and traveled a lot. Then they went all in and bought one of those huge diesel pushers for $300,000+. Nothing but trouble from that point on. Every time they took it out something broke. Electrical stuff, leaks, hydraulic lines, brake lines, you name it. They live in Bay St. Louis but bought it in Tampa. They were constantly making trips to Tampa to get it worked on for a week or two at a time. My dad flips out over the smallest things as it is, so this ordeal was a several year long nightmare. Ruined what used to be very enjoyable for them.
ETA: They didn't do many trips that were "camping" style - they just stayed at nice RV parks. My dad isn't crazy about staying in hotels - he preferred his own home on wheels. For me personally, I'd rather a nice conversion van for travel and then stay at nice hotels.

You can also catch the Ferry from Prince Rupert BC. Cuts a lot of the expense and it's a not a bad drive from the lower 48.

Volunteer at one of the State Parks. You can live there for summer and it will not cost you anything.

We are kicking the idea around of doing this. I will retire in 4 years, but I have a 6 and 10 year old. They are ready. We plan to work at whatever campground we are just to pay our rent. With my pension we can get along just fine. Wife will home school kids and we will go wherever we feel like.
