I did it but only for 3 months and mainly stayed parked in Indian Creek right outside of Canyonlands National Park. I had to run to town where there was a connection to the outside world sometimes to work so having satellite internet would have been nice. I would highly suggest satellite if you need a decent internet connection for work or personal. I've spent time in a lot of parks and the best places to be (away from the masses) aren't going to have good, or any, cellphone service. Being off grid we couldn't really use the shower often due to the hold tank size and needing it for cooking and drinking. That wasn't ideal with 3 dudes living in it at the time and climbing all day. Had a no shitting in the toilet rule since that is gross. It was difficult at times but definitely worth the experience. Go on out there get it

The sun setting against the wind gate sandstone walls, being cut off from the outside world for the most part, and getting pretty good at climbing the perfect splitter cracks were some of the best months of my life

Shout out to one of the GOAT Presidents, Barack Obama, for protecting this beautiful and sacred land via the Bears Ears National Monument

Sorry lady, no way.

That (moving an RV or travel trailer) sounds like work to me.

If I woke up one morning in Oregon in my own RV, I'd immediately sell it there and fly home rather than face the arduous task of piloting a huge rolling box for 1,300 miles of moronic texting drivers.

Then there's the people you meet RV-ing:

Having to interact with the folks that I know who have RVs (almost without exception) sounds ghastly to me.

My fellow clientele at the hotels I stay at generally aren't seen or heard.

I return the favor to them.

Staying at a hotel is (for me) means to an end, not the end in and of itself.

There are exceptions at (for example) Zion NP or Yellowstone but generally I don't mix hotels with touristing.

frick staying in a nasty hotel. Even the high dollar top of the line hotels are nothing more than fetid cess pools of human excreta from lord knows how many people. No thank you. I'll be sleeping and fricking in my own bed, showering in my own shower, and shitting on my own toilet, thank you very much.

So you can have your hotel room all you want. No matter how many stars or how expensive it is, this is what your getting....

I don't think so.

Feel free to let your freak flag fly. Just don't expect me to go wallering in your filth afterwards.

Those are gorgeous pics. It would be amazing to wake up and be able to see scenery like that from the bedroom window. With my situation there are days it cant do much but stay in bed and rest so it would be awesome to have views like that. Then on my days that i feel good i can go do the more active exploring.

I would be more than happy to live with the minor inconvenience of limited water just to be in a place like that for a few weeks/months. Dealing with such things are just part of the adventure and it teaches you to become creative to get things done. i think that is part of the fun of the RV life. It gives us a glimpse into how our pioneer ancestors traveled west in their covered wagons.

My sister is going to start doing this with her husband. Sounds great.

We were on a cruise a few years ago and sat with a couple that were doing this. They were basically driving all around the country on an ongoing basis, and stopping at kids houses every couple of months. They would go to like an RV park for a month at a time, every couple of months.
Had all their mail held and forwarded to their stationary location, paid all bills online, and seemed to be enjoying it. I would think you could do this with no loss of contact with anyone in the internet age.

I am sorry to hear that...it sounds like you value our short time here on earth and want to make the best of it.that being said, your endeavor sounds exciting and i would do it in a heartbeat once the kids are grown and on their own.one thing i've noticed about "RVers"...from the 300k diesel pushers to the little pop-ups, most of them are cool af and are there to have a good time and enjoy nature and family.

RV life is gross. A bunch of old people hanging out drinking coffee in KOAs.

I live in North Alabama and I am pretty sure there is no such place as Miuntain Lakes Resort in Guntersville.

How far is that from Little River Canyon?

No. I could not think of a more miserable way to spend my retirement. However, a lot of folks enjoy this lifestyle; just go to any military RV park and you'll meet dozens of them.

Apparently, this is big where I grew up. It allows the meth heads the freedom to pursue their passion.

Having to live at a Walmart parking lot from time to time does not sound like the good life.

Has anyone else had experiences with living the RV life or owning one to vacation and travel in? Any advice, stories to share or ideas on bucket list places to go?

Lived in camper for 2 months after the flood. It was not fun but I think it was more working on flood recovery than anything else. I think the RV lifestyle would be cool if you moved around and saw some neat stuff. Just living in an RV in one place was not very fun.

I think that would be cool. I used to know a lady that went city to city on her yacht. That's cool.
