Man that's tough - I've spent time in Nebraska, but at least they have the Sandhills and Lincoln/Omaha to break up the monotony. If you have to stay out there, get as close to Kansas City as you can. There's a whole lot of nothing the further you get down and away from I35.

Been to all three. Stupid doesn’t begin to characterize this statement.

Had a distant cousin live in Kansas for a while. Like middle of freaking nowhere, two hours from I-70 Kansas.

I asked him about it at a wedding a few years ago, what it was like.

He kinda stared off for a while and told me one time he watched his dog run away for three damned hours.

Hays, KS. Love that little town. The world could end and that place wouldn’t even know. Something about seeing the storms roll in from 150 miles away and the wheat fields moving in the winds.

But come winter, eff that. It’s a windy bitter cold that makes you hate life.

The KC suburbs in Kansas are nice. Not much character, but clean, mostly new and safe.

Lawrence is the Berkeley of the Midwest. Brutal politics. Aside from that, it has a nice small town feel. When we lived there, Lawrence had a flourishing main street. Plenty of good restaurants, local shops, etc. The neighborhoods around downtown have a lot of historic homes and mature trees. The geography is very hilly. The Kansas River flows past downtown. It’s pretty much the opposite of everyone’s perception of Kansas.

There’s a reason this movie scene worked so well:

I have to go to Kansas for work for a few days next week and I'm dreading it bigly. I couldn't imagine actually having to live there.

I've only been there in the winter. (Stayed overnight there twice on the way to Denver)

Windy and Bitter is definitely the best way to describe the cold there. frick that

Spent 2.5 days in Hays when they had I-70 closed for a blizzard. Not much there besides a applebees and pizza hut.

Anyone who has driven to Denver from the south has probably driven through the entirety of Kansas on I-70. Really not much to see from Ok City to Denver.

Hot as balls in summer, frigid in winter. Flat. The wind blows all the time. Les Miles lives there.

Witchita, Kansas City area, Lawrence are decent towns. Don’t know that I would vacation there though. You could always visit the world’s largest ball of twine. LINK
