It's a non-public airport in the middle of bumfrick Cameron Parish with no road access that has seen major development in the last few years along with the lake it's near. The costs and logistics to build that must have been outrageous considering construction vehicles can't even drive out there.

All I can find on the Googles is a 7 year old article with this blurb..

The Independent

quote:

Most of Louisiana's better-known clubs and camps are unique in their own way. Members of the Coastal Club, for example, find out where they're hunting and with whom by lottery every morning. Guests arrive at Little Pecan Island Preserve by private plane, and guides stand waiting in their boats at daybreak for each.

Another weird thing is that I don't see any camps nearby on satellite images that can't be much more easily reached by road or boat launch.

This place intrigues me.

You have no idea the money that is in the families/companies that own most of those marshes.

Truth. You gotta think that way back when, nobody wanted that land. It's a fricking marsh. What, other than hunting and fishing and raising marsh cattle, can you really do with it? So, people bought huge amounts of it for dirt cheap.

Then they found oil and gas under it.

EDIT: Also, I wonder which family of Rockefellers Rockefeller Refuge is named for. The land, incidentally, didn't come from them. It was the McIlhennys that bought the land and gave it to the Rockefeller Foundation. Any way you cut it, those are two LOADED families.

And his former partner bought the famous Florence Club, which is south of Gueydan, on the way to the White Lake property, and made it his private residence.

A former poster even got married out there.

Coastal Bridge built the airport and Flores paid for it. Think it was a few million dollars.

Jim Flores owns Little Pecan Island, the same Jim Flores whose name is on the business school at LSU.

A close family friend flys in there and hunts with them every season. My family friend gets to go because he owns and exploration company that drills on Flores property, and Jim invites him.

Pretty sure Miami Corporation owns the property.

It's been a few years, but I've been to that airport a few times for work.

I’ve met a guy whose family has a place (or the whole island) there. His family lives on the upper east side and obviously has a frick-you amount of money.

you see the slip of land to the SE of the strip?

That's his "camp"

As far as driving, Jim lives in Houston. He flies his King Air from Houston to the door step of the "camp." His flight is like 45 min. It takes longer to drive from Lafayette to that area than for him to fly from Houston
