So my co-worker (lets call him Ben) coaches 7&8 little league baseball in St. Francisville. He was telling me they had their draft a few days ago. The 4 coaches picked numbers out of a hat and Ben got 1st pick. He picked this really good kid first pick overall and then they did a snake draft. Well, another coach kept asking Ben to trade him that really good kid because he coached him last year and he's friends with the parents. Ben said he appreciated the offer but he was going to stick with the team he drafted.

The next morning, Ben gets a call from the dad of the kid who was picked first. The dad said he was going to move his kid up to 9&10. Ben said he wished he would've known that and why wouldn't they decide that before the draft. The dad said, well, we will play but only for Coach T because he's a good friend. So Ben was nice and said he wants players who want to play for him so he would trade with Coach T.

What the hell is wrong with parents now a days? I told Ben I would've told that dad to f-off and to move the kid up then. When my kids were growing up playing sports, I could not imagine calling a coach and saying he's not going to play but only for a certain coach.

The league should not allow them to play up
after the draft. If they don't like it, they can go play somewhere else.

Sounds like he's holding all the cards in this deal. What did he get for the trade?

Fake and gay

A draft for 7 and 8 year olds? You gotta do better than that.

Kid was probably going to sign with someone else as soon as he became a free agent anyway.

I believe they just traded 1 for 1. His 1st for that other coaches 1st. Kept it simple.

I wouldn't take anything less than the 1st and 2nd round picks for my 1st pick and my 5th rounder.

Simple. The rec league has to step in and squash it. Happens all the time. Douches stack teams, parents want kid on stacked team. Parents make douche moves so they can dominate the world by winning rec championship that is lame

Not the first time I have heard of this
So Ben and the Dad are trying to stack their team

We had a problem where coaches and Asst Coaches were guaranteed to coach their kid. Dads would sign up as HC, get their son as an automatic pick then get their buddies to be Asst Coaches and stack the roster.

We had to pass a rule where each team had one HC and one Asst Coach only

We quit rec leagues due to that draft bullshite. My son get picked by some shitty dad coach and that was one terrible season. One season after that I was approached by a good coach and he asked me to be an assistant coach, in name only, so my boy would automatically be on his team. Still though, rec leagues suck and I'm happy to be done with that...and all stars.

Ben is just a down to earth good guy. He and his brothers all played college ball.

This happens all the time. I coached softball when my daughter was 7-10. The first year I coached I didn't have an assistant at the time of the draft so I got an extra pick and the best kid in the league. The next year she played tournament ball but the following year would only play if I coached her. Another coach drafted her and she threatened to quit. I told the coach it was his call I'd trade her for my number 1 pick or keep it as it was.

He traded her to me and ended up marrying the mom of the kid I traded to him so I guess he won. The kid I got was the best athlete in the league but had a shite attitude after tournament ball and was not a great asset to the team.
