Took the kids by there over the weekend and had a sign up they closed for good. Its a shame. We always enjoyed their food.
Is it high rents, bad workforce, finding good help, etc?. Its a shame most decent restaurants don't survive in LC. I'm sure it will be another mexican joint soon.

CRE is still valued way too high and rents are insane.

You need to try that Mongolian grill on Nelson. Fantastic.

I've heard that from others, as well. I still haven't been though. I need to go.

Yes. But that’s the restaurant biz.
What’s kicking a lot of places in the teeth is yet another surge in food pricing. If you aren’t a massive chain with clout to negotiate cheaper prices you get eaten alive by distributors

Could be any of these… more than likely not enough customers… “craft burger and pizza” joints going always have a hard time

True. That shopping center in front of Market Basket on Nelson only has that cookie place rented out. It’s been like that for awhile.
I also think LC has too many restaurants for the population. It seems like every year a few restaurants will shut down while a few open as well.

That's the restaurant business. Absolutely unstable.
But the rent is too damn high. Doesn't help.

On average, 4/5 restaurants close in first 5 years.
A third fail in their first year.
The issue isnt really the overall number honestly even American eating habits.
It’s having the right concept and price point in the right place. There have been plenty of places with great execution that failed because it didn’t match well with the location.

I've heard this from multiple people. High rents have killed many a restaurant here in town. You would think these landlords would give a little for the sake of commercial enterprise.

You should see some of the terms I hear about over the past 5 years. Annual increases of 10-15%, or terms requiring 15% of gross revenue.
Absolutely absurd. Treating restaurants as a golden goose as opposed to a business with low margins. The worst ones are the stories of a mom and pop making it by for years, and once they finally building momentum and start getting ahead, then they are pushed to close because of sudden rent increases far beyond CPI.

If local landlords have issues, they just sell to bigger CRE firms.
The problem is that CRE, nationally, is a shite show.

I can't think of the specific examples, but a couple faced just this and had to close.
I imagine uprooting and moving a kitchen setup is extraordinarily expensive and landlords try to use this as their leverage.

Same with Izzo's.

That and a lot of the investment building up regulars. That’s where the momentum comes in. If you aren’t a McD that folks just know what is served and what they would like, it takes time to break into a new location.

Wife and I went there one night since we were living in the apartments next to Kroger cause Laura. They demanded you wear a mask to order but could take it off to eat.Thats the last time I entered the place.
