A lady I work with uses the word "like" a lot. I like to turn on the transcribe in teams when she's on a meeting and go back and read what she said. The sentences written out are hilarious.

And what is fricking worse is these morons on this damn message board who actually type the word "like" multiple times in one phrase just like they were talking.
I guess they would say they were voice texting, but even then they sound like morons because they are morons

Almost like it’s the 90s again

I use “know what I’m saying” instead

One of my clients uses “dead arse” all the time after every sentence, as in dead arse serious and it drives me up the wall.

It's a symptom of poor public speaking. It is a pause for the brain to form the next sentence somewhat like we used to say umm or other verbal pauses

It has been going on since the 1980s. I think less of people who do it.
Same here. I was at a coffee shop one day about 20 years ago and seated outdoors when 3 young adults sat at a table near me, 2 guys and a gal. The guys were in suits and the gal in very fashionable business attire and all carrying briefcases.
I couldn't help but overhear their conversation and the amount of "Like and You Knows" being thrown around had me wondering how anyone could take them seriously in a business environment.

Like/Literally was the focus of a hilarious bit that I saw a gay guy do at an open mic in Asheville, NC. He imitated a young woman who said those words “like literally a million times” in every sentence, while reading stuff off social media on her phone and talking to her friends.
I laughed as hard as I did at Chris Rock in the 90s; the shite was so real.

When I was in 8th grade.. This was early 90s.. Catholic school. Our English teacher would randomly call on people and give us a topic to talk about. Every time we would say "like" she would make us start over. I used to hate that shite because there was no preparing for it. It could be anything "Tell us about a time you did something fun with friends".
By the end of the year we were much better at talking without saying "its like..." "so like.." and to this day I will think about it when holding a conversation and make sure I avoid saying unnecessary likes.
