Color of the interior makes a big difference too.

I'd say that it's more important.

Do you mismatch exterior and interior colors? I dont make big changes with those.

My truck now is white with black and grey interior.
My last truck was black with brown and tan interior.
I agree that the interior color and material is probably more important for temperature than the exterior color.

Having driven many dark trucks, I'll stick with the lighter colors. Not because of temperature, but because it is extremely difficult to keep black paint from becoming a swirled mess.

I have a light colored truck, but the biggest factor for me has been the tint that I had installed. Went with ceramic with the maximum heat rejection possible. Even did the windshield with a nearly clear film. It'll change your life and save your interior.

That makes sense. I prefer the darker exterior.

Hot take warning
A vehicle other than a white or black is trashy

With automatic start, the heat doesn't matter. I had a black truck and everyone told me how miserable I would be. Hit the key before you get in and by the time you sit inside, it's already cooled off.
The dealer is pushing light colors because they were trying to pump out as many trucks as possible after the backorder delay. Easier to pump out a couple of colors than many colors.

My thoughts exactly.

I will only buy and daily drive white or silver vehicles after owning a black on black leather car. Never again.

White and silver are easier for the dealer to get, since those are the most popular fleet colors.

white is the only way to go

I have and it doesnt seem to make a huge difference. A degree or two during August. Still HOT!

Essentially, Auto Trader took two nearly identical vehicles, one white and one black, and let them bake in the hot sun. When they measured the interior temperature after a few hours, they discovered the theory rang true. The black car's cabin measured a scorching 130 degrees Fahrenheit, while the white car's interior registered only 113 degrees.
They also decided to try answering a different question: Which one cools down faster once the air conditioning is cranked? Once again, they broke out the thermometer and discovered that the interior of the white car cooled to 84 degrees after 10 minutes, while the black car was still at 91 degrees.

Just tell him that is what remote start is for.
The color thing is overblown. I have a black truck with black leather and does it get hot - yes. Is it noticeably hotter than my old white truck with grey cloth seats - no.
Just make sure when you buy the truck that you get your windows tinted with ceramic tint and that should take care of most of the problems.

he last 6 cars I have owned have all been dark colored cars. I have never had an issue with temperature.
During the summer in South LA, I put windows down for a 10-20 seconds or crack sunroof. put A/C on max and it's fine in 60 seconds.
Doesn't matter what color your car is, you have to vent the heat.
This.
Its hot in the summer in LA....period. White or black car will be hot. Black might be a few degree's hotter, but both still hot.
Roll windows down and let heat vent out regardless.

My concern with light colored vehicles is they tend to blend in with the concrete.

Buying a truck. Narrowed it down to Z71 and a Bighorn. Dealers keep pushing white and light colors "they dont retain heat". Being from LA this seems complete BS. In August your truck is either 98 or 97 depending on the color. No difference. Am I wrong in this logic?
EDIT: Apparently its true. Thought it was an exaggeration of the truth.
White vehicles do not show dirt and grime like darker vehicles. That is counterintutive but wash a black vehicle and if you don't dry it it'll look dirty in an hour...a white one can go for years and not look any worse than it did 3 days after washing. White ones ain't as sharp but they look better a week after washing than darker ones....

Test it yourself. The next time you’re in a Walmart parking lot on a sunny day find a white car parked next to a black one. Put one hand on the hood of the black one and one hand on the white one. You can decide how significant you think the difference is.

Dealers are dipshits. There’s a good chance the lighter colors have been sitting on lot longer and they want to move them.
We are in the south. It’s hot as balls regardless of the color of your truck
