Spinoza is a crook. He killed off a number of contractors on his Perkins Rowe project.
Didn't he declare bankruptcy at one point?
BR can thank him for Alamo Drafthouse deciding not to open a location there.

So your wife is on the board or what
No my wife is not on the board. I’m just a guy who thinks Baton Rouge, notwithstanding its problems, isn’t a bad place to be. It has provided myself and my family with a very good life and rather than complain all the time about it’s downfalls, I prefer to look at areas that are bright spots and good for this city. I happen to believe libraries, parks, museums, universities and some development are good for a community and while we are much farther behind than some competitors, we still have options to improve this place. People want to live and raise families in these communities which in turn brings business and prosperity for a local economy.
Libraries are one area. New roads are another and I will support that as well because it is terribly needed. I don’t sit and say “until Government is so efficient I’m not supporting anything.” That day will never come-for any municipality, Parish, state or federal government. We will never live in utopia. We have to pick our battles, choose what we need and support it. Sometimes swallowing our pride or even going against our instincts.
This board is lit up with the problems of this area and what they call a shithole however I’d venture to guess, while city council meetings are live-streamed on this site and hundreds of posts are made laughing at Gary Chambers and the like, not one poster has visited a council meeting, taken the microphone and spoken their beliefs.
It is easy to sit behind a screen and complain. It’s a lot harder to actually be productive to make the community we live, raise families, have careers and business, educate our children in a better place.
I don’t want to pay anymore taxes than anyone else, but I do realize money makes the world go around. Like it or not, we have to pay to play.

you need to take the man's name out of the thread. spinosa doesn't own that land and is not "getting $1.7 million".

gravy chambers gonna love that

He owned the land before. He fricked the Parish out of the promised donation. He then sold the land upon which the library would of sat thus profiting more on the sale than he would have otherwise. He is a Grade A piece of shite. frick that guy.
He still owns a portion of the commercial section of Rouzan.

I think you are just spouting off shite and playing very loose with the facts. He didn’t “frick” anyone out of a donation. He held the Library board to some contingencies and they held him. In the end it didn’t work out on that proposal because the economics for both parties wouldn’t work. Was he an a-hole during the negotiations? Maybe, I don’t know but nevertheless it was just a business deal that didn’t happen. These occur daily.
His lender went bankrupt which left him without financing during the late phases which is why progress slowed. Enquist and Landry bought out the mortgage, released Spinosa from hold harmless and he received a portion of the commercial property fronting Perkins, where the new grocery store will go, in exchange. That parcel and release were his payment. Period.
You should do your homework prior to opening your mouth when you clearly don’t know anything about a situation. Your lack of knowledge automatically discounts your comments.

apparently Libraries seem to be a way for politicians and their cronies to make some money

I agree with much of what you said, but the problem the way I see it BREC, the Library Board, and these independent agencies is that there is no way to know if they are really efficient or if they have too much money and look good for that reason.
It's good to hear that folks like yourself find out libraries to be outstanding. They should be. So should our parks, but unlike the libraries; I see more issues with BREC not keeping up their facilities.
As for the subject at hand, it seems to be a good deal, but how necessary is this facility? It may be vital, I don't know, but we voted for it
so it's not like we had no input.
As for Spinosa, he isn't getting anything directly. And yes, he is as shakey as you can get.

this is basically just slander. cool opinion piece, i guess. nothing you're saying is accurate, though.

The library board has been looking at sites for a potential "southside" library branch for quite a while. Before the Rouzan idea a site on Lee was considered. I don't know how necessary it is, the Bluebonnet branch isn't far at all from this one and it was recently renovated.

We take our kids to the Library on Bluebonnet about once every two weeks or so, and usually on a Saturday morning. There’s always several families with small children in the children’s section and lot of other folks in the main part of the library. I am often pleasantly surprised by the amount of use you can get out of a good library. Of all the things that our parish does that is a waste of money, a library isn’t one of them.

I know, that's why I wondered out loud if it is necessary. Bluenonnet and Downtown and another library off Washinhton isn't that far away.
But it is in the master plan.

Yeah, but a library in this new subdivision can be of modern construction and technology and be available by foot to all of Rouzan/Southdowns without having to cross Perkins. Crossing Lee might still be a deathwish, though.
