Level Billing with Entergy

Changing utilities and putting them in my name, should I start out with level billing or will they over charge me for the first year? Will they use the previous owners utility bill as the estimate? Should I wait a year to activate level billing?

I thought you have to have so many billing cycles under your name on the account before you can do this anyways?

I never understood level billing. I just have all mine set to auto pay. I see no need for the payment to be the same every month.

If you're on a fixed income, it probably helps a whole lot with budgeting.

It's just the same every billing cycle, or close to at least. Some domesticated households stick to a monthly budget, to save for certain things, I guess it helps.
I just use a very cheap provider, i think like 4.4 c per Kwh..I don't think I've seen a bill above $50, ever.

I was getting robbed doing levelized billing. I stopped it and pay anywhere from 30-100 less per month. If you do it really look at your bill. I noticed my usage was way under what my level was. I printed 3 years worth of bills and never could get where they decided where the level was.

You probably need to be with them a year before you can go on levelized billing.

They have "Equal Pay" for those that want the same bill every month. Levelized isn't necessarily the same every month, but the fluctuations are absorbed over the entire 12-month cycle, at least in theory.

That's what we do, we always know the summer months will be more...and plan for it.
It's nice having MUCH cheaper bills in the winter, especially around the holidays...frees up more money for Christmas presents, etc.

All I know is I didn't sign up for level billing but they're too lazy to check the meter once every 2-3 months so they "estimate" usage and charge it the same way.

Level billing is for the poor who live paycheck to paycheck, so they can pay a set amount. I can guarantee you will get charged no less than what you use, and likely you will get charged more

Personally, I found level billing with Entergy to be much more expensive. I am very cautious with it comes to lighting in most of the apartment/house.
I usually got around $45 per month while in Baton Rouge. It only ever got to 70 twice and it usually is because the family visited over a period of time.

I live in Texas and it is pretty straightforward. It tells you what your actual bill would be and then what the "level" amount is. The difference positive or negative is spread across 12 months.
It's pretty basic math. You end up "saving" during the summer and paying that balance during the winter. In no way does it cost more. And you can always see what your balance is.
