By next year, Baton Rouge cyclists may be able to ride between Hollywood and L'Auberge casinos on new bike trail

In December, the East Baton Rouge Metro Council signed off on a $1.7 million contract to pave over the gravel path on top of the levee between Farr Park and L'Auberge Casino. In early March, the city-parish will sit down with their contractors, and construction can begin within a month after that, said Fred Raiford, the city-parish director of transportation and drainage. Construction is scheduled to take eight months to a year.

The upcoming phase is approximately 8 miles, which will about double the length of the paved portion of the trail, Raiford said. The upcoming phase does not include plans for paved ramps up to the trail, which currently runs between the Florida Boulevard area and Farr Park.

May get cyclists off River Road. I know there were accidents in the past. The trail currently ends just south of Brightside. This will extend it to the Bluebonnet area.

They are still facing legal challenges to extend the trail on the west side beyond Brusly.

quote:

Baton Rouge officials want to extend the route to the Ascension parish line. They're looking for help from federal sources, like the U.S. Department of Transportation, Raiford said. However, in the past, the city-parish has had to endure long waits to get boosts from the U.S. government, he said.

In 100 years, some people may possibly see a trail extending between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Costs will rise to 6.8 million and won’t be complete by 2027.

Did I do this right?

You can build it, but you can't make the fatties use it.

If there’s 1 road I’d never ride a bike on, it’s River Road. Way too many speeders and curves.

Will they ever bridge Ward's Creek to connect the Bluebonnet and Siegen trails?

Y'all talking about mugging...have you ever ran/biked this stretch? I've hardly ever ran into anyone other than the occasional fishermen on the other side of the levee. It's a very tranquil and scenic ride. Very excited to have them do this.

Worst case, pack some heat while you go. But I seriously doubt people will have issues

They have submitted a grant application and are awaiting funding. BREC doesn't want to spend their money I guess.

Yeah, it’s part of the construction of the Ochsner clinic that’s being built as we speak

Meanwhile, kids get off school buses on Gardere - a road with no sidewalks, only sloped grass along both sides - to walk home. At least those 15 CrossFit nuts will have a place to ride on Saturdays.

Priorities = straight , [SCREWED UP BEYOND BELIEF]

Way to go BR.
