re: Let’s talk Thomas Cooley Law School in Michigan

Cooley accepts everyone and flunks out like 50% of its 1L class

Yeah it’s a scam. 2 law schools (Whittier and Valpo) are closing and Cooley could be next. There are too many law schools. The law needs to be a tough profession to get into. My brother graduated from U of Illinois Law and now works in a cushy job in Chicago. No way would Cooley given him that opportunity.

I feel pretty good right now. Am I in for a rude awakening next semester, or next year?

Southern Law School you’re off the hook tonight, narrowly.
Thomas Cooley is a law school where the primary application requirement is a pulse. The 25th percentile LSAT score is 138. Converted to a raw score that is typically 37 correct out of 101. More than a quarter of their student body has scored less than 40% on a test that is supposed to measure the critical thinking skills needed for a lawyer.
Is this concerning to anyone else? People are receiving law degrees with LSAT scores that show marginal literacy.
Looks like someone just finished reading the Rooster Bar

please tell me Roger Williams in my family's ancestral home of Rhode Island is safe
Posted on 11/17/17 at 10:31 pm to SlowFlowPro
I’m not a lawyer but it’s the only law school in Rhode Island so I’m sure it’s okay

Cooley has an awful reputation, but I know a dude from Louisiana who went there and then came home and passed the bar first time.
It’s not completely worthless, but I would not recommend anyone go there unless they have time and money to burn.

Nah. 1L year is hell, 2L year is busy, and 3L year is DGAF. The biggest issue is job hunting and post 3L year bar prep.

Nothing new. Cooley was the same when I was in law school two decades ago.

Not sure if they have a law school but Grambling has to be worse in all other majors

Cooley has always had a reputation similar to ITT or University of Phoenix. Diploma mill. Excellent way to weed out whether or not someone has the bare minimum of good judgment. People who choose that school do not.

Survival of the fittest, those that go can't blame much

Don't know much about the school but one of the best attorneys practicing mental health and succession law in BR went there. He is a solo but I'd put him up against the 'big law' BR guys any day.

At LSU Law or Southern?
Is Southern still selling their degrees for cash?

I'm at LSU
Southern is a place where you get out of it what you put in. Their bar passage rate is worst in the state. However, there are some really good attorneys that come out of there, especially from the night program.

My wife says when you see white people at Southern Law, it's because they were rejected from LSU or weren't offered any scholly money lol.
I'm practicing for the LSAT. Plan is to get into Fordham. No way I could afford NYU or Columbia unless they offer me $$$.

Or they're in the night program.

I got my BA from LSU and I will say LSU has a beautiful law school building, at least the front, not the annex part.
