Now, say you are in the same situation but now you have a radar detector and can confirm that the police officer does not have his radar on. He knows your speeding because he is speeding. Is it legal for them to pull you over without radar?
There was a 30 page thread here a few days ago about someone crying about a cop pulling him over when he was behind the cop.

Corruption is like weapons. If everyone has them in similar quality and quantity, no one is doing shite. Things get nasty when there is lack of balance of power.
Legal is like possible. It really depends on how creative, intelligent and ruthless you are.

how can running a stop sign, a red light, or failure to use a turn signal be argued in court?
your word against his.
but go ahead and argue it the next time you're in court and let us know how it works out for you.

Just drive normal and don't worry about them. For all you know they probably just left a domestic and may be going to see their wife, kids or grandchildren. Cops are, for the most part, pretty good ppl that you'll never know what they just went through.
Are they going to treat me the same way? Maybe I'm going to see my family after a bad situation also? I'm a pretty good person and they have no idea what I might have just gone through.
Do you think they give a shite?

They say they were driving the same speed as you and their speedometer showed 75 (or whatever they paced you at).
It's not that odd. I'm not a cop and can estimate pretty easily that people are over.
I don't know who would risk tailing a cop to drive over the speed limit. Let them go, start driving faster again. Profit.

You’re flat out wrong. Cops can get pulled over in their own jurisdiction for speeding.
This would never happen.
I witnessed a State Trooper pull over a City police car in said city for flashing his lights and running a red light late at night. True story.

The guy sounds like a buddy fricker. I'm not a cop and cops need to obey the law, but I speed every time I'm driving whether it be a mistake or trying to get somewhere faster. Nobody is perfect.

I suppose you are correct in theory, but as a practical matter this is not correct. I just leave cops alone, if possible.

So, what you're saying is that because he's a cop and has to see things that we can't handle, he gets to speed home to his family? That's putting him above the law.
If I'm not above the law, a guy that likely signed up for the police department because he didn't know what else to do with his life sure as hell isn't either.. There are plenty of things that the average person deals with that doesn't give them a pass for speeding.

Tell him you're just "drafting" and will explain it to the judge if he writes the ticket.
you can then explain going 120 mph saves gas

Airplanes don't use radar to judge your speed fwiw.

The point is, you don't know what the cop is doing. Mind your own business and obey the law and you'll never interact with them until you need them.

Mind your own business
speed limits are set for a reason. the reason we get ticketed for driving above the speed limit (after revenue collection) is that we are being unsafe. a cop speeding for no reason is being unsafe. i'd rather not be on the road with that and yes, it is our business. they work for us.

I don't give a frick what the cop is doing, just like he doesn't care what I'm doing if I'm breaking the law.
I can't tell if you're trolling or just a little oblivious to what you're saying. The cop gets no judgement passed on him because he's an officer of the law, yet I need to be on my Ps and Qs at all times?
Some guy that got handed a gun and a badge because he went through recruit training lite isn't above judgement any more than any other person.
EDIT - Like the guy above me said. The cop works for me. Not the other way around buster.

Although I’m not a cop, I am a first responder and here’s a situation I hate. We get dispatched to a call and we’re going lights and sirens through the middle of bumper to bumper traffic then the call gets cancelled or downgraded. All of a sudden we’re parting the Red Sea and as soon as we get through the traffic lights we turn off the lights and sirens, it makes us look like complete a-holes that didn’t want to sit in traffic lol. Normally we will just keep them on and turn off on a side street and cut off the lights there.

It works because they're both on their side and not yours. All of govt knows how the money machine works. Just like how the thin blue line covers the cops, it also covers the judges. The thin blue line can either cover you or suffocate you... which do you think they choose?

No.
They only annoy me when they do 50+ on residential streets. An old friend-coworker of mine was killed by a cop who was doing 55 in a 20 with no lights on.
