This is the 2nd storm in a row that meteorologists have hyped up for the Baton Rouge area and there’s been a 10 minute thunderstorm. Right or wrong, people aren’t going to take the next storm seriously.
And in the last storm, New Orleans got fricked. It could just as easily have been a tornado in BR, just depending on how things shake out.

Hmm, local weather experts said expect hurricane force winds. Lmao
I only saw them say tropical storm force gusts were possible, which plenty of places have seen.

Wasn’t all that bad here in the northern part of St. Landry Parish. A bit of high wind, a couple hours of heavy rain, and not much else.
It was advertised as almost the apocalypse.

No, it wasn't.

The reason for the closures in a more widespread area than is seriously impacted is that the technology can only show where conditions are ripe for something severe to happen, not exactly where it will happen down to the mile and at what time. The tornado that hit arabi could have just as easily hit oak hills in Baton Rouge at 3 that day, the conditions were there. The minor inconvenience of schools letting out early a couple times a year is better than being caught with hundreds of kids and parents in a carpool line with a tornado bearing down.

Yeah not really. Here in duplesis wind is driving rain sideways. So far seems more of sw wind. A little shift and i’s be worried about my patio cover

would you have rather had a kid at a school like the one in AR that got leveled today? i mean sure it happened in the early am before anyone was there - but imagine if kids were in the building? they could have been ok, and it could have been far, far worse.
it is a big inconvenience for folks to have cancelations, but whether you agree or not, it is a smart play to keep them off the roads going home, and keeping the parents off the road getting them and trying to get home when it moves in.
has noting to do with raising a "soft generation" or overreacting - that is just the "cliché" thing to say.

The Memphis channels have stayed with the coverage even though most of the severe activity is out of their coverage area and certainly out of their main population area
As someone who lives in an area that’s pretty rural and very much between viewing areas I really appreciate it

New tornado warning for a storm just southwest of Starkville, MS. Going to be moving toward Starkville.

Sorry, I didn’t see the school closure thread when I posted. I’ll take my bitching arse out of here. I really do appreciate what you weather baws do here. Better than the damn weather channel. I know y’all don’t control the school stuff. I apologize, I was just venting.
No hard feelings?

RTR have you seen the new discussion on the change in the line structure?
DISCUSSION… The nature of the line has changed a bit over the past 1 to 2 hours, with a less cohesive QLCS and a more embedded cellular structure. Each of the tornado warnings and more sustained low-level circulations are associated with taller cores and reflectivity structures resembling embedded supercells. This change in nature of the line and a favorable low-level shear environment (0-1 km SRH in excess of 300 m2/s2 per KGWX VWP) may lead to an increase in tornado productivity for the next hour or two. Dewpoints are lower across Alabama, but some low-level moisture increase is expected, and the environment remains favorable for tornadoes through the evening and into the overnight hours.

Just heard second transformer blow here in Ponchatoula. Wind is steady around 30 mph. That Amite tornado was tight for a few frames

What's it looking like on radar now?

Yeah, all of that makes sense. If the line breaks apart a bit, we could see semi-discrete storms which would pose a higher risk of tornadoes. Guess we’ll see what happens.
