I have a lot of experience with the difference in cost between American made vs Chinese goods in electronics mainly but also sporting goods. It's not 10 times more expensive although I know you were exaggerating. Chinese goods are about 45% cheaper than to make in the USA. Almost the entire difference is in labor. A Chinese line worker may make as little as around $3 / hr versus the same job in America would pay approximately $18 / hr.

I always try to avoid Chinese stuff anyway. I have no problem paying a few extra dollars for American made goods, they usually last longer anyway. Unfortunately, there's some things where there aren't a whole lot of options. Hopefully that will start to change.

I wish it worked like that but the Chinese will just build 90% of the product in China and outsource it to Vietnam or Malaysia or something so it will be made in that country. Still a Chinese good. What we can do is buy American even if it costs more.
