The Road was the worst book I’ve ever read. I’m embarrassed for anyone who pretends to enjoy it. You are a puppet of Oprah’s if so

Cormac McCarthy must have voted against a leftist at one time in his life.

The movie was 10x more mundane than the book.

I want to like his writing, but I just hate it so much every time I try.

He managed to run out the clock and get away with it too. Impressive in this era.

I don't think anyone enjoyed reading it. But I think there are a lot of people that can appreciate it for what it is.

I'm not defending him, but obviously this was a different era and things like this were viewed differently. shite, Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin and it apparently was legal. It fricked up his career, but also 13 is not the same as 16.
Like someone said, 16 is the age of consent in about half the states in the US. It doesn't change my opinion of him as an author.

I liked the book and the movie. But I am a fan of the dystopian genre.
I've read all of McCarthy's books, and I don't give a shite if he was screwing a woman 50 years ago that was the age of consent in the majority of US states and 90 percent of the world.

I don't know about that. Having children and thinking what it would be like for me to be in the father's place made me appreciate the book.

According to Britt...they did not have intimate relations (you know what I mean) until she was 17. So, one could point to the ages of consent in different states, or say that this was a really long time ago. She turned 17 in 1976...so we aren't talking about the 50s, here.
Regardless, Blood Meridian is one of the finest pieces of American Literature written in the 20th century.

I think 16 is legal in some states. Not sure about wherever he was.
