Go see your PCP just to make sure it isn’t anything more serious than leg cramps/dehydration. Obviously the older we all get the possibility of a DVT or circulation problems dramatically increases. You may have a potassium deficiency, I was diagnosed with one in college while I was playing ball, couldn’t stop cramping up in practices & games. It definitely took more than eating a bunch of bananas and drinking lots of water to correct, plus it’s terrible on your heart.

You get should go get checked for gallbladder issues just as a precaution in all seriousness.

I get restless leg syndrome, a kind of annoying bout of near-nightly mild cramps/spasms. A toke of weed before bed is the only relief I've found due to it relaxing the muscles and (for RLS) nervous system.

When all the others fail try 3-4 ounces of tonic water before bed

Why would you drink sugar water to try to go to sleep?

Eat about 4 or 6 tums as fast as you can then drink a butt load of water, pickle juice.

I was getting them every night as soon as the weather turned warm. I kept gatorade next to my bed, I was in so much pain from my hips to my toes, I couldn't open the bottle.
My wife like the AC set on 74 at night, that makes me sweat a little, I lowered the AC to 71, get a blanket honey, I stopped sweating at night and the cramps stopped.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, but if you don't take minerals you can make it worse.

Just read all the post, great advice from a guy that has had night time [and daytime] leg cramps so bad I could not get out of bed until the pain stopped.
When I "over exercise" and don't drink enough I get really bad cramps. I now start drinking at least 1 water bottle every hour.... two bottle to start with, anytime I work outside. I also drink a bottle or 2 of gatorade.
Another thing not mentioned, is taking a couple of 200 mg pills of Ibuprofen. This helps relax the muscles to help prevent cramping. 4 hours later I sometimes take a couple more.
I have not had night time leg cramps in many years.

So i found, and was told my a specialist, that pickle juice works best for me. I tried potassium pills, bananas, drinking over 8 bottles of water a day, and stretching. Stretching made it worse. None of those but pickle juice worked for me. I have Been getting woke up with these cramps for a while. I think it was because i underwent chemo and radiation and didnt move around to much because i was to weak from not eating. Muscles atrophy maybe. But mine were not in my calf they were further down around achilles and it would start pulling my muscles and actually turning my foot inward. I would have to wait for it to pass because walking on it didnt work. I also get them so severely in my left shoulder, the side that i received radiation on, and in my neck it feels like its pushing my shoulder muscles out of my skin. Doctor prescribed me Baclofen for these cramps. You might need the same thing.
Edit to say its been since 2016 that i had chemo and radiation and the cramps didnt start to hit until when i got back on my feet and started walking again. I figured after a while, after getting my muscles strong again that the cramps would go away but they didnt.

When they do onset, I've found lowering my leg off the bed asap and wiggling my toes eases it off pretty quickly.
They are very, very painful. Luckily I haven't suffered one in awhile.

Been there done that with hydration and all the other things. Tonic water broke the cycle and it has not returned. They do make diet Tonic Water. Appears that the quinine is the key.

My Dr suggested taking Magnesium Malate. I take two pills @ day and my muscles cramps are gone ! I have suffered with muscle cramps for years and no longer have a problem.

Apparently pickle juice is supposed to be good for cramps.
Pickle juice or the budget method is mustard. Mustard will make it go away in a matter of seconds. If you get cramps during the day, carry some of these on you.
