Louisiana's transportation chief said Thursday he doubts that Gov. John Bel Edwards' $600 million highway plan will allow the state to widen Interstate 10 completely from the Mississippi River bridge to the I-10/12 split.

"Also we spent $100 million of that on the study to determine that $600 million wouldn't be enough."

They're saying they need almost $200 million/mile to complete the work. Now let that sink in

Eastbound side only? I’d take that.

It actually would make better sense to do one side completely rather than both directions partially. They are both a cluster. I'm glad that I rarely drive that stretch.

I need to be a road paver/civil construction company. Motherfricker. All those entrance/exit ramps and flyovers are expensive!

If they had the full budget, that's $32,500/foot

Texas has allowed the privatization for hundreds of toll miles. The roads are freaking glorious, too. Well built, maintained and even the landscaping is pristine.

In defense of the current budget per mile(not that I agree with it) 1996 was 20 years ago, a lot of shite has changed since then. it’s not exactly comparing apples to apples. Also, that is an average, rural areas are a lot cheaper to build than in the middle of a city. Every bit of this current project is in the middle of a city. So, it definitely is above the average cost per mile. Still way too expensive.

Just bring in 10,000 Chinamen. It'll get done in six months and under budget.

600 million could build a new bridge , maybe no connectors to and from it. Leave the existing 1-10 alone

Elon Musk can put the mass of a fully loaded 737 into fricking orbit for 90. We get a mile of concrete.

Let THAT sink in a minute.

frick that.

Cut some of that $150 million from a single interchange in Kenner. I-10 is the biggest clusterfrick in the region.

JBE deserves to get his arse handed to him in the next election for a even threatening to short change a project needed this badly.

They could have built 3 copies of the Audubon Bridge and its approaches for what it costs to widen the Huey P Long bridge from 4 to 6 lanes.

$350 million to widen a congested and unsafe urban freeway doesn't seem so bad when they want to spend $150 on a single interchange.

The building of roads is already privatized, FYI.
