The building of roads is already privatized, FYI.

He's referring to a private company building the road and owning it so they get the toll money to recoup the costs and eventually make a profit. There's a road like this from the Denver Airport to the city

ETA - sometimes it's only for a set time period after which the maintenance becomes a government responsibility

This city, 30 years ago, was a place of potential.

Now, Baton Rouge is a nice combination of Tulsa; Richmond, CA; Jacksonville; Columbia, SC; and Baltimore.

Hard to believe someone once told me "Catfish Town" was the next French Quarter.

Even if the goal is somehow reached...i doubt it would make much difference traffic wise.an alternate route would be money better spent, but you know that's not going to happen

We can't complete this for $100 million/mile?

This is so absurd that it should be considered criminal.

There is zero justification.

and that's fine if you cherry pick the most profitable routes but let's not pretend that a new interstate that connects Geismer to White Castle is going to be some big money maker. I'm 100% on board with this being a toll road but there's a reason no companies are offering to do this for free in exchange for collecting a toll.

BR has massive amounts of pass through traffic on I-10 and I-12, particularly 18 wheelers. A loop in this region would be heavily traveled.

He was talking about a "loop" and what people mean when they say "loop" around here is getting duped into a southern bypass.

I mean a way to connect to I-10 south of BR and I-12 east of BR. It doesn't have to be a full loop to achieve what we need.

If they don’t have enough money to add one lane on each side, then they should just focus on adding the one Eastbound lane. The westbound one is no where near as needed.

Build a north loop bypass that goes across the St. Francisville bridge. Go from west of PA and connnect right near Livingston near the new Disney area. Charge a toll. Profit

What are some similarly intensely widening projects that have come in significantly cheaper per mile?

said the key question is how much of the 3.5-mile corridor can be widened for $350 million, which would be allocated for the project.

I will say that this is definitely more challenging in that there is a lot of elevated lane work to do, but that price still seems steep.

If this project doesn’t happen heads should roll. No question.

Does it really surprise people that JBE is not a competent manager and executive?

All he's good for is preening and screaming for more taxes, putting more leeches on the dole and suing the shite out of oil and gas and thus driving jobs out of this state.

Toll roads are usually not solely private ventures. The ones that are typically fail.
