I’ve seen this quite often actually but usually in different room. For instance a washer and dryer in the master closet and on set in the laundry rooms. I’ve also seen it where there is a set in the garage for work clothes/pet bedding.

THIS!!!
Bought my first house last year, was pumped to finally park my truck inside. House was built in 1998, when we apparently all drove go-karts. Not only does my stock/non-lifted f150 not fit, but my wife's Camry barely fits. Individual garage doors for 1 greater garage room is insanely stupid.

Garage receptacles placed 48 inches above the floor for easy access when stuff accumulates over the years.

Don’t skimp on the closets. Put in some quality built-ins with heavy duty shelves and plenty of hanging space for you and the wife and make them big.
Don’t even worry about a bathtub in the master bath. Just put in a big arse shower with built in shelving for the 10 bottles of shampoo and stuff plus a built in seat for when you’re old or for shower secks, if you’re young enough for such activities.

Put lots of extra outlets in the garage and on the exterior of the house. Seriously you cannot have too many outlets, inside and out. Same with hose bibs. Our build has 5 hose bibs.
Water line in garage/laundry for extra ice maker. HV outlet for EV charger.
Empty conduit from your “tech box” to the outside allows for easy additions as tech changes. I.e. fiber internet.
Hardwire every room for Ethernet AND put a wireless access point on each floor.
Install all top cabinetry all the way to the ceiling. It costs a bit more but adds an incredible amount of storage and eliminates a place that catches tons of dust and dirt.
Use REAL WOOD sand & finish flooring instead of the manufactured veneer crap that looks like hell after a couple years and can’t be refinished.
Add blocking at the tops of windows to make hanging curtains 100% easier.
TV’s above fireplaces are a pain in the arse to watch. Put a family picture up there and make a special area at eye height for the TV. Put a double or triple outlet and Ethernet here so you don’t have ugly power strips hanging around and you can hardwire gaming systems.
Storage storage and more storage.
Before the drywall goes up, take detailed videos and pictures of every room so you know exactly where studs, water lines, etc are.
If your builder offers “options” for different levels of carpet, go with one that is “free”. The upgrades are insanely expensive and still garbage that you can get cheaper/better at Home Depot.

Yeah the master bath whirlpool tub has to be the most useless thing ever. Can count on one hand the number of times we’ve used them in our houses over 15 years.

Definitely put the laundry room on an exterior wall. I had a booster fan in a previous house and it helped, but there was still excessive lint buildup in the 40 feet of vent.
Also, don’t vent the dryer though the roof.

Actually, my land isn't in Louisiana, and I plan to have a basement finished out. Basement suggestions are appreciated.
In addition to the exterior waterproofing the builder will do, have someone do the inside as well for an extra layer of protection.
I used Xypex. It uses water to bond to the concrete making waterproof. The way I was told it can be rolled onto the inside (block or concrete) and when water comes in contact with it (from the outside) the Xypex will get sucked deeper into the block and increase its protection.
Another thing I would consider is a dedicated plug in the garage for a deep freeze. The city code will require the electrician to put a GFCI on it due to the garage being a "wet location", but after the final inspection I would replace it with a standard plug. A gfci tripped at my old house and I lost everything in the freezer.
If building a multistory house put the laundry room on whatever floor the bedrooms are on. My old house had all the bedrooms upstairs and the laundry was downstairs.
Also if at all possible put your master bedroom downstairs. I dont know how old you are but that is always a plus for resale.

You've seen this "quite often"?
I have been in a ton of homes in my life and have literally never seen one with an extra washer and dryer. That seems like a waste of square footage better used for floor space, cabinet space, counter space, etc. I certainly have room for a 2nd washer and dryer, but I can't imagine why I'd even bother.
I can "sort of" see a separate set for items that need a more industrial cleaning, but I think I'd rather spend my superfluous income on something other than a backup washing machine.

I think the people with a double laundry room either have 6 kids or a house cleaning service that also does laundry. More time efficient to have 2 loads going at a time if you’re paying someone else to do it.

I would make the cat's bedroom a little bigger and eliminate the upstairs kitchen.

I learned that next time, I won't build a house, but buy one that's already built. So much less stress.

Yes, but are you going to keep the upstairs laundry room?
Posted on 4/5/22 at 3:37 pm to Ramblin Wreck
I like my tankless water heater, and the decision to put in a propane tank (no natural gas here). But if I built again I'd install 2 water heaters. One for the master bath, and one for the kitchen/laundry. It takes at least a minute for the hot water to reach the second area.

Things glad I did:
-put kids rooms and entertainment den upstairs and our bedroom downstairs
-put a daybed, closet in office with adjoining full bath so it is a legit 5th bedroom
-big porches
Things wish I did:
-bigger laundry room
-bigger master closet
-even more sound proofing between floors bc, you know, kids are upstairs

Put 50k+ more aside from what you think you will spend, but build exactly what you want

More common in the Midwest and other areas with basements and multi- story houses.

billjamin - I am confused?
Does that mean the shower and full bath off your pool are interior?
