The average heart beats 100,000 times a day, which equals out to 36,500,000 times in a year. Based on average life expectancy your heart will beat around 2.87 billion times before you die.

Take a tennis ball and squeeze it hard. That’s about the pressure that’s required to send blood from your heart throughout your body.

If your arm or arms hurt when you sneeze, doctors say spinal nerves being impinged is the probable cause, not a big increase in blood pressure like I thought for years.

TIL that Harambe’s mother, only full brother, and two of his half siblings were killed when a tub of wet chlorine tablets was left by a space heater. The toxic fumes were blown into the gorilla enclosure and killed the four gorillas.

A Hummingbird's heart beats 1,260 times a minute. During its waking hours, the math works out to be 1,058,400 bests during daylight hours (~14 hours this time of year where I am). When night falls and Hummingbirds "go to roost" to sleep, they slow down their heart rate to conserve energy. Their heartrate goes so low that they enter a catatonic like state that will only begin to change as the sun rises. Their metabolism is so high that if they did not have this adaptation they would starve to death in their sleep. This catatonic like state is called torpor, and a Hummingbird's heartrate will fall to between 50 and 250 beats per minute.

Due to my artificial mitral valve, if you are close to me (say witching 3-4’) you can literally hear my heart beat. If you didn’t know what you were hearing, you’d think you were hearing a watch tick.

I hear it every waking moment. I have to block it out or it will drive me nuts.

Sometimes I’ll mess with people. If they notice the ticking, they’ll say something like “your watch is really loud. I’ll hold up my Apple Watch and tell them it’s a new feature.

They have to launder and steal as much money as they can. At least until they find a new country to do it in.

The mitral valve thing is cool. Tick tock.

Look no further than the heart to see an amazing component of the design and spirit (cyclical) of life.

Meanwhile, most Americans spend their beating hearts time posting political BS on social media, watching Tik Tok videos and living a life towards diabetes.

Pity.

A friend from work got an artificial valve replacement about 20 years ago. He was mid-40s at the time, so a mechanical valve was his best option.
If you walked into his office and he wasn't on the phone, you could easily hear it ticking away. Freaky!

Obviously, you have a mechanical one.

My wife says she can often hear them just walking into a hospital room.

Most mammals get about 1 billion heartbeats, we beat that with medicine and food science.

I was 43 when I got mine. When people realize what they’re hearing, it blows their mind.
