How muchbdonthese rankings matter. I know several people who graduated from Loyola over the last twenty years who are doing very well in different states around the country.

My wife's firm has grade requirements for hiring that are a little more lenient if you went to a top tier law school.

So it can mean a ton of money.

T14 is the the top. If you are ignorant of the T14 then you likely don’t need to be worried about the T14 to begin with.

Periodic check-in to say:

I’ve seen tier-nobody grads filet tier-elite grads. Your law license doesn’t have a tier.

Sure, it's up to the individual and their ability, but the rankings do matter. They matter because the higher ranked schools will attract more quality students and faculty.

wasn't LSU like 65th or so before the state decided to rape LSU with budget cuts?

It is a law school.

How impactful can a budget cut be?

's such a bullshite ranking especially for people who really need lawyers. I know several lawyers that went to schools on the near the bottom of the list that run rings around guys that went to higher ranked schools and vice versa.

I always found that the most effective attorneys in the real world situations were guys that graduated near the bottom 1/3 of their law school class.

All the Ivy League stuff just means you have connections in high places. Remember, Obama was a Harvard trained lawyer and he NEVER saw the inside of the courtroom .

The best attorney I ever dealt with graduated from Loyola, in New Orleans doing the night school route and graduated near the bottom of his class. He routinely ran rings around guys that graduated from places like Columbia and Cornell as well as Harvard

So the most effective attorneys, in the real world situations were guys that graduated near the bottom 1/3 of their law school class? Do you ask lawyers to provide where they ranked in their class?

No all lawyers are trial lawyers so there are many lawyers who don't spend much time at all, if any, in a courtroom. Some lawyers are are much better at the paperwork, some lawyers are much better trail lawyers, etc.

Trial lawyers are good salesmen and have to have a more open thinking process when it comes to interpreting the law. There are different skill sets that lawyers can have that can make them a good lawyer so I wouldn't just go around looking for lawyers who near the bottom 1/3 of their law school class and think that is the only ones who would be good lawyers.

A better question would be is how do they rank these schools? What is the criteria used? Bar passing rat

Admissions. Literally whose GPA/LSAT medians for admitted students is the highest. It’s 75% of what gets you a spot on the list. LSU Law is a great school, but all you need is a mediocre GPA and a pulse to get in. For a school like Yale, either you need to be legacy, child of a Senator or Fortune 500 CEO, or actually work for it.

Admissions profiles but also I'm sure employment statistics play a big part even though schools cook those numbers

Pretty much this. The rankings outside of the top 20/30 are really subjective. I can't remember the law school, but the school just pumped a bunch of money into USNWR's metrics for ranking schools one year and went up like 20 spots. USNWR is just a game, some schools play it better than others.

Yes. More grads in biglaw the better. But you also need to go to a T20/30 to have a good chance of going to biglaw.

Yeah, definitely not true. Top 5-10% for any school in the top 100 have a shot at big law.

The better question is -- unless you want to brag to your friends about your big law job -- who the frick willingly wants to work in big law?

It’s not all bad. Or maybe I’ve just become immune to it, which is possible.

You can make 150k your first year out of most any law school

It's just insanely more difficult from Southern than from Duke
