Read the article. This chick is a "true believer" who legitimately thinks every inmate is innocent and redeemable. People like this just don't understand that there are evil people in the world.
She hired a convicted felon active gang member to work in her law office and then testified on his behalf when he was arrested for a murder where they found his blood at the crime scene.

There's plenty on both sides. Primary example being the hard-line war on drugs approach espoused by the right. (Both sides are guilty in this as well.)
In my experience, people that align themselves on either side are dangerously naive.
