2% of your insured value.

Not with State Farm, apparently. Talk about a gut shot. Either way, we will get it done one way or another.

More?
That sucks. If you can wait the initial surge out the prices will adjust. At the start of Rita people were paying $315 per sq, then $265, then $225, and at the end contractors were doing it for $185. I heard today people are out in LC offering around $265 so they can bill the insurance $325 and use the difference to give to the owner for the deductible. Give it time. I will get on Xactimate and see what the current rates are for LC.

Take your time. We will most definitely discuss when you get back into town

Our house is likely totaled in LC. Just north of LC Country Club. Was able to salvage most belongings due to awesome family and friends from out of town, but need climate controlled storage. A hot arse storage unit with no ac is asking for a Petri dish of mold.
Anyone know where a storage unit with power is?

Closest was Beaumont as of yesterday.

The hotel staff is complaining about the issues already and they seem to think the hotel will be destroyed after a month. He said they are bringing in crock pots and hot plates and cooking in their rooms which is against fire code. I already have seen them smoking pot on the corner and shitting in the street because it was taking too long for them get checked in. The trooper told me it's only a matter of time before some of them try to sell dope and a local gang comes to shoot at them for impeding on their turf. He said within 72 hours that would happen.
I was in BR for Katrina. I hope New Orleans enjoys every bit of this.
Lake Charles might have actually improved itself if these people never return.

All that to say, be careful about what they are trying to sell you right now. The ones out this early are trying to prey on the desperate or those that don't know any better.
Stout speaking the Gospel. Be wary of EVERYONE and ask for references, State Contractors License.

Update on that looter situation. Its quite sad. It seems the old man in his 80s had some dementia. It appears he may have been startled very early in the dark and thought his wife was an intruder. Seems she was banging pots around getting ready to cook breakfast as there was a pack of bacon on the table. Shotgun from close, identified by her wedding ring. He realized what he did and couldn't bear living so ended his own life.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is working a double homicide in the Iowa area. The victims have been identified as 73-year-old Joanna and 81-year-old Vorne O'Brien. Deputies said they would not release information on the manner of death. As far of the motive, all the sheriff would only say was it didn't appear to be a robbery.

It's a mixed bag. 4 family homes minimal damage in Lake Chuck. Friend in Moss Bluff had some damage to roof but he already repaired it. Some high school friends still in Lake Chuck had almost no damage while others have splinters for a home.
Those with older homes are the ones with easily repairable minor damage. Those with new energy efficient all sealed up homes have nothing
What do you mean they have nothing? After all, it was just a Cat2

Made it back yesterday and I guess I was spared. The damage was very minimal. It’s not even fair to call it damage to what most have suffered. Neighbors on either side weren’t so lucky, heavy damage to their homes.

General offer : I'm headed just north of LC past Gillis to help a friend cut and haul trees.
If anyone has a home/property in that area up 171 that they haven't put eyes on yet, reply with an address and I'll oblige once we're done for the day.
I'll check back in this thread before I head out this afternoon.

Anyone hearing of looting in the area? This morning on Nextdoor (I know...) someone posted that their son was a deputy in Sulphur and he said the looting was getting pretty bad. I hadn’t heard that anywhere else. Is that true or just another post-hurricane urban legend?

I haven’t heard about that but I have no problems with looters being shot.

Looting and theft are very real in these types of situations. It's the reason curfews are put in place, it gives officers a reason to question anyone outside after hours to try to curb it some.

I think people will be reluctant to post an address of an unoccupied residence. If you provide an email they can send the address to, it may be better

I haven’t kept up with every post since the hurricane hit. Here’s my question.
For 48 hours prior to landfall the predicted track had Laura traveling due north up the La/Texas border and not making a right turn until Arkansas. Had that happened, my hometown of Winnfield in central La would have been spared the worst. What explains the turn Laura made after landfall resulting in the eye moving through Alexandria, Winnfield and Ruston with Cat 1 winds.
