I haven’t even made to Lafayette yet and the number of bucket trucks, generators, water tank trailers, tree companies, skid loaders, etc is just amazing. It’s like a huge convoy.

P[/img] Our son is helping to coordinate electric crews and contractors in LC — he sent this to us at 5:28 this am.
And hey LsuJML and slack, I posted a pic all by myself!!
Eta he works for an engineering firm in Lafayette — his area is environmental/coastal but he said they were involved with raising homes after Rita and likely will be with this in some capacity as well.

Where are you going??????

Yeah it’s been that way for 3 straight days . I guarantee I’ve seen a thousand bucket trucks heading to lake Charles and north. Unfortunately, a lot of then have to sleep as far away as Baton Rouge because of the lack of hotels.

Where is this? I talked to my son last night. The hotel they were staying in had no water or electricity so they have moved to a camp made up of of bunk houses in West Lake, I think he told me. Anyway, they now have some AC and a hot showers so that is a plus.

That was I’m guess at Chennault this am (at least yesterday that’s where they were) — son is staying in Jennings for the weekend .. pretty much their whole office.
Think my son was there only this weekend — not sure about the rest of the office.
Thank you to your son!! Prayers for safety.

Vlad how far away is your son from? My brother just sent pics of where he’s working to restore power. I’m not sure where they are but I’m assuming Louisiana — he works for CLECO. These are contractors I assume working with them.
Eta my sister in law seems to think that these are near Chicot State Park.

He is with a crew out of Birmingham, AL. They were up in NJ/NY last month and working in 80 degree very low humidity. He told me that yesterday may have been the hottest (feels like) temp he has ever worked in. He also told me that the only hot meal he has had, before last night, had been provided by the very people they are there to help.

If you come to south Louisiana to visit or help, you will be fed very well.
Godspeed to your son and his coworkers.

If there is a way, Louisiana folks will step up and feed people.
There are two things we like the most, Food and drinking.

They are begging people to sign contracts and telling people "we'll deal with you insurance so you don't have to" Don't do that, people, unless you want to get scammed and/or have a nightmare on your hands.
This is great warning/ advice.
Also many of these roofers really have no interest in the interior repairs but if you sign the contract and without excluding language they own the whole claim. You could be waiting around for those interior repairs while they moving on to the next job and will blame the delay on the insurance company because they can't agree on the estimate or such.

He said at first he was hesitant because some of these folks homes were in very bad shape, damage wise, and felt bad about eating their food. They were like, hell no, we need to keep you all fueled up so you can get our power back on.

ETA: I would be pissed if I was a local and paying $3-4K for an apartment downtown only to have this being brought in.

. These are people from what is essentially the 9th ward of LC.
It’s utterly disgusting how quickly these type people destroy everything around them. Absolutely disgusting. They are like termites to a house, start devouring immediately and things are never quite same.
