Just got off phone with dad. An 80 year old friend of ours and his wife were killed last night in Iowa by a home intruder. He was a retired crop duster. WTF??
Knew them well. He owned the flying service.

Anyone know of a tire repair shop in Moss Bluff or surrounding area? Thanks.

Walmart in Jennings was open today. Lacassine Fuel station might open tomorrow. Try Doucet tire in Welsh too.
I don't think anything closer than that can open. Maybe something in Kinder or Elton too.

Thanks. Trying to help my brother — it’s all I can do until he tells us what he needs when he needs it.
Really appreciate it.

The story I was just told
quote:
Update on that looter situation. Its quite sad. It seems the old man in his 80s had some dementia. It appears he may have been startled very early in the dark and thought his wife was an intruder. Seems she was banging pots around getting ready to cook breakfast as there was a pack of bacon on the table. Shotgun from close, identified by her wedding ring. He realized what he did and couldn't bear living so ended his own life.

So the door to door salesman are out in full force already according to several friends and family. They are begging people to sign contracts and telling people "we'll deal with you insurance so you don't have to" Don't do that, people, unless you want to get scammed and/or have a nightmare on your hands. That is how the guy in Baton Rouge scammed so many and took out supplemental claims on their behalf. Also, do your best to find someone local no matter how many credentials these out of town guys throw at you.
Also, they will offer to tarp your roof for free in exchange for signing a contract stating that they get the roofing job too. Then they feel like they have you by the balls and jack up the price. If you decide to shop around and find someone cheaper, they will send you a bill for thousands for the tarp job and lien your house if you don't pay because that is what the contract states.
Everyone needs to realize getting material is going to be a nightmare. It was after Rita and we didn't even have shortages like we do now because of Covid putting a strain on manufacturing. Materials were already sky-high before this and this will push it up more so in LC. Everyone needs to breathe and just accept that this is not going to be nearly as fast of a recovery as Rita was. More damage and more challenges. Get your house as secure as you can, start your claim, and go from there. With Rita, it took a solid month before material started to catch up to demand, and even then there were still logistical issues.
All that to say, be careful about what they are trying to sell you right now. The ones out this early are trying to prey on the desperate or those that don't know any better.

Yes. Just got off phone with friends from Winnie who called to ask about them. Not sure what all happened. Just a good guy, been customers and friends of my dads since before I could walk.

Place was just south of 90 on Fruge road. Heavy police force investigating when I passed by this morning. Prayers to you guys.

Spent the day all across I-10 south. Grand lake, Holmwood, Bell City, Iowa and Big Lake. The deconstruction in the streets of Lake Charles is significant.

Really solid advice. I had told my wife something like this earlier to pass to her people but you wrote it up better. I am passing this along to them. Thanks Stout.

Good for you. When I looked mine up Entergy’s only status was a frowny face

Better consider yourself lucky. Many people will be waiting 3-4x that amount of time.
The only sliver of hope that I have that I will get power anytime soon is that I saw actual Entergy trucks working in my neighborhood and around the NG plant close by.
Hopefully they are a priority to get online and I will be included in that.

Yes yes and yes. I am a contractor out of Baton Rouge. Don’t sign anything with the first person who shows up at your door. Your asking for trouble.

Well, I was just downstairs letting the dogs poop in front of Morris Barts office and there is a state trooper here guarding the InterContinental hotel because of the people being brought in. They brought in 100+ more into the Hilton across the street and he said there is like 300 in the InterContinental, a few hundred in The Whitney, and another hotel with over 500. Over 1K so far and counting brought into NOLA because they already filled up Baton Rouge. These are people from what is essentially the 9th ward of LC.
He said they already have arrested two out of the Intercontinental in two days. One tonight destroyed the mini bar in his room and took out $1100 of liquor and goods. They chased him and arrested him in Lafayette park.
The hotel staff is complaining about the issues already and they seem to think the hotel will be destroyed after a month. He said they are bringing in crock pots and hot plates and cooking in their rooms which is against fire code. I already have seen them smoking pot on the corner and shitting in the street because it was taking too long for them get checked in. The trooper told me it's only a matter of time before some of them try to sell dope and a local gang comes to shoot at them for impeding on their turf. He said within 72 hours that would happen.
My room is next door in the Residence Inn and there are none booked her so far. We are booked until Wednesday then we are going to GTFO.
The trooper said under normal circumstances they would be in shelters but due to social distancing, the politicians decided hotels would be best for them and the hotels are starving for revenue because travel has been down so they took the offer made to them.
NOLA and BR, thank you for taking these upstanding citizens as it's doubtful most of them return to LC. One of the apartment complexes they came from was completely destroyed. If anything, they will be in these hotels for months on end.
ETA: I would be pissed if I was a local and paying $3-4K for an apartment downtown only to have this being brought in.
