Is there a fair amount of residential development toward the lake/coast or not really?
South of Lake Charles, the world quickly turns to marsh, so there's not a whole lot out that direction other than fishing villages/camps/isolated homes. And Hackberry.

We left lake charles at 6:45 this morning and it was possibly the smoothest trip to Baton Rouge I've ever driven. Even stopped at Billy's since traffic was so light
I’m glad it was smooth for you, but does that mean not as many people are leaving who should be?

Everything I’m seeing says that a shelter in Calcasieu Parish is not safe because of proximity to the storm. The local bus service is taking citizens to shelters that will be safe.

This thing sorta reminds me of Hugo and how it blow up that last half a day and then ran us over. Hope it's not that and best of luck to everyone down there is the way of this thing

Okay, someone help me out. Rita’s surge was 15’-16’. Ike’s was 20’. Why is this projection so much higher than those with a similar surge projected?

High tide plus they’re trying to scare the stragglers into evacuating.

I’m on the phone with Hilton Honors and rooms keep booking while I’m on the phone. Looks like I’m headed to Metairie.
ETA: Never mind, they’re booking up quicker than my agent can get it booked. Looks like I’m headed Harvey.

I’m hoping there is a little of that here. Rita and Ike both had storm surges much higher than their category. Their typically are very conservative on these projections as they can’t be wrong on the low side.

How wide would you estimate the destructive force winds are?

Good luck. Hit me at pannycricketstd @ gmail if you need me to get on the phone with another HH agent while you're tied up. Glad to help.

How does any of this affect the casinos?
Well during IKE and Rita it breached the levee that the boats sit in and raised the boats enough to where you could barely crawl into the casino from the hotel. At the height of the storms you couldn't get in to the casinos at all.

If you are NORTH of hwy 90 in New Iberia it should be a wind event. I went through Lily and Rita there. All of the water was south of 90 around the Port of Iberia.
