Do you think the people who put out the models that are always outliers ever get embarrassed by their results? Are they like Man, we got the shape right but we’re like 500 miles from those other models. Do the CEM2 dudes with the pink track below ever think maybe they should change some formulas or do they just tell each other they’ll be the only ones who get it right one day? You know they must catch hell at the weather modeler conventions or whatever they have. It reminds me of some of those dumb BCS computer polls they use to have.

My understanding is a lot of these poorly performing models are actually designed for other phenomena so their lack of hurricane accuracy is not a concern.
