But the shear isn't going to relax, so...

Shear is going to do a number on Marco. I still don't think Laura will struggle much with shear on its approach.

Here in Ponchatoula we are forecasted to take the Eastern eye wall of two different hurricanes in the same week. Insane.

Wait for the next forecast, and that will likely change. Paths are quite uncertain right now.

I saw James Spann mention that NHC had said that it was unlikely as of now that Marco will have much of an impact on Laura since Marco will be at least a day or two ahead.

Any clue which incantations need to be chanted, or what gods I need to sacrifice to for this to happen?

The impact Marco will have it to clear out some shear and moisten up the Gulf. Marco is far enough ahead to have positive impacts.

After Marco reaches the coast, the western Atlantic ridge is expected to build westward and should cause the cyclone to move more slowly toward the west-northwest across southern portions of Louisiana.

Marco now hits SELA, and then slows down to make sure he soaks as much ground as possible, and hangs out awhile until he leaves just in time for Laura.

Is there any consensus on how high of a category these storms will be? Will they be category 1 or like category 3/4 upon landfall?

GFS nears it near Grand Isle then just hugs the coast westward very weak though.

Marco shouldn't shift too much. Stronger longer will tend east vs it getting rocked by the shear which would have it tend more west.

Laura is going to depend on where it gets to the gulf. Farther south and Texas is on the table. Rides north of Cuba and into the Florida Straights would stay at about what the NHC has now.
