The Sewerage & Water Board is investigating a photo posted on social media Friday that appears to show an employee sleeping in an agency vehicle while crews were supposed to be fixing water service in the French Quarter.

"Our team is aware of the situation and we are investigating," said S&WB Press Secretary Curtis Elmore. "We certainly encourage employees to perform assigned duties and our goal is to foster among our employees a strong sense of duty and pride in their work. We appreciate the patience of our customers as we work to get to the bottom of this matter."

S&WB workers are allowed to take 15-minute breaks. WWL-TV asked if using that time to take a nap in an agency vehicle is allowed, but has not yet received a response.

The image is particularly damning because it appears the morning after the Sewerage & Water Board acknowledged for the first time that two supervisors who were needed to fix a loss in water pressure at the agency's central water plant in November were asleep and did not respond when they were needed, costing the agency precious minutes and forcing the entire East Bank to endure a boil water advisory that lasted 28 hours.

She had to get nominated at some point, right? You are such a bleeding vagina, good god

Are you retarded or do you just have no clue how Louisiana primaries work? Do you think she ran against a Republican in a runoff?

I posted this in one of the threads about her right after she was elected. One of her first moves was to appoint a new NOLA EMS director. The doctor in charge at the time had been running EMS for 8 years. In those 8 years the EMS saw a 45% increase in daily calls and were handcuffed by a decade long hiring freeze. They could only replace not add employees. So, that guy ran the department so well that the city's EMS became a national leader. Dr. Elder was asked to review other city's EMS departments and offer his input. Cities like Boston, Baltimore, San Francisco, New York, Tampa, etc. He was respected throughout the entire medical community as he also moonlighted as an ER doc @ University on his days off. His EMS staff loved him. He had a great relationship with NOPD & NOFD. He was doing shifts with EMS during Katrina when everyone else was running out on the city. Cantrell notified him of the change in leadership via a reply all email. Then she goes and hires his replacement who had ZERO experience in anything EMS or hospital administration. She was the chief resident of an emergency room for a few years then later trained in pediatric emergency room care. Dr. Elder was a white guy in his 40's. This is who she appointed.

I think she’s horribly incompetent and often not honest. Being honest though, I don’t see her acting “ghetto” there.

NOLA has less than a zero % chance to improve as a city with Latoya Cantrell as Mayor.

Barring some unforeseen windfall, the S&WB will move by the end of this year to secure as much as $100 million more annually to fund a massive, long-deferred overhaul of its ancient water, sewer and drainage infrastructure, Korban said Thursday.

What happened to the money already given to fix this?

I thought the fact that the employees were sleeping on the job was pretty much common knowledge to anyone who wanted to look into it (which obviously Latoya and the city council do not). Hell, I remember reading about it months ago on the OT. NOLA really knows how to pick them.

But at the end of the day, the system is still a complete disaster and probably close to total collapse. There's going to be a day - probably not far away - when the water isn't going to come out when you turn on the tap, or it's going to be brown, or, the drains won't work, etc.

Granted. But then the City will hire the same contractors who fricked up the Bourbon Street renovation. It'll cost twice as much and take three times as long than if the city was run with some modicum of competence.
