Powerful statement from one of the victims.
quote:
“You know, going through this is not easy. From surviving the carjacking, to the current life I now live because of it.
Then having to face my attacker in court, seeing her support him, putting myself and my feelings on the matter out there, not just locally but nationally, none of it is easy.
"It all comes from a place of hurt. I feel like I am in a boxing ring with the mayor and repeatedly getting punched in the face.
"From all the coverage we have had on this, has she not learned anything? That your victims are hurt by your actions?
"Instead of going up there and giving the slightest apology or giving even the most minute complete support of the victims she again, went up there and made this situation okay.
"She made the fact that five women being robbed at gun point was okay.
"Her actions were louder than words in the court room and her words tonight supported those actions and proves where her priorities for not just the victims but the community as a whole lie.
"Her arrogance is disgusting, her justifications of her actions are weak and diverting, and her honesty is superseded by her caustic manner of speech.
"No where in there was there support for any of the victims. She in no manner showed any support for us.
"Walking out on me, mid-impact speech, and tapping a victim on the shoulder as you were walking out, is not support.
"Her so called justifications are not justifications, they are repeated slaps in the face."

All taxpayers need to move out of New Orleans.

Latoya reminds me of jameis Winston in how the deflect criticism and invoke god when convenient
Winston throws a pick and says god told him to throw that pass
Latoya supports a criminal in court but says god bless you to the victims and gets indignant about what she meant by it
Gos is working through her it appears
Is god responsible for her use of the most profane language ever uttered from a human on a daily basis? Is that the lords work Latoya?

what occurred to me reading these threads and seeing her press conference is how divisive she is.
I am from Lafayette and one thing I have learned about people from New Orleans, from all walks of life, is they take immense pride in being from there.
Everything she has done has been to divide the city along racial, economic, political and cultural lines.

Watching her press conference, I was struck by how she really separated the criminal from the crime and the crime from the victims. It’s like she put them in three separate boxes. She expressed sympathy for the victims and talked about trauma being real and touted the city’s trauma centers. She spoke about the young man who was on a better path (with no mention whatsoever that the court appearance was for five violent carjackings in a span of 2 days). And then she basically excised the crime from the story and ignored it altogether. I would have liked to see a reporter press her on what the criminal was actually there for. A lot of the questions were about her picking a side and not about what the sides actually represented.

other than the local media covering it for the clicks, i don't feel they are very interested in actually further investigating some of her shadiness or pressing her in press conferences.

The mother of one of the victims is on WWL Radio right now

Are there any good viable people who will run when her term expires?

My exact thoughts on every election and unfortunately the answer always seems to be no.

This interview is more suited for the Scoot show. It’s too touchy-feely for Newell’s show. He’s been on a warpath against Cantrell and needs to keep the pressure on her.

Too early to tell.....no one wants that job so dont get your hopes up.
If I had to guess it's going to be someone thats already on the City Council or a really powerful, rich outsider that can rally the voters......
The problem is getting people to vote.......no one ever votes in NOLA...if people would actually vote then we wouldnt be in this situation

Indeed
She is very divisive. She’s also arrogant and narcissistic.
She’s a no fault mayor.
When she showed up to court to support a criminal, it was brazen example of a person that sides with uncivilized lawlessness. She says that she was siding with kid that had been through A program to reform this kid. That kid didn’t have a choice! The program was mandated!
She pokes your in the eye and then says “god bless you” and then has the Gaul to proclaim that it means soooo much more than WE understand!
It’s bizarre
For the People leaving the city, don’t feel bad- The city has left the people.

That's pitiful. Maybe the experiences with Cantrell will inspire folks who don't vote to do so in the next election. One can dream!

That's true and in the story I read, the program was for 8 months. The woman running it said the kid turned around midway. So, he acted like a good little boy for 4 months in a required program and basically gets off? That's not okay.

That was unbelievable. I don't know how she cant be embarrassed for herself by what she said. "Oh, I said God bless you to the victims and that should be enough because I know what it means when I say it." It's not about her, but she doesn't understand that because everything is about her. That statement must have felt like another car jacking to the victims.

It is pitiful but it's true..just look at the voting breakdown for all the elections Katrina...
I've said it before and I'll say it again....Ray Nagin was the best Mayor ive seen in the 22 years that I've lived here.
133,601 voted in 2002 primary
38,323 voted for Nagin
108,348 voted in the 2006 primary
41,561 voted for Nagin
113,591 voted in the Runoff
88,945 Voted 2010
58,279 Voted for Mitch
84,070 Voted in 2014
53,441 Voted for Mitch
82,111 voted in the 2017 primary
32,025 voted for Cantrell
85,071 voted in the Runoff
75,325 voted in the 2021 primary
48,750 voted for Cantrell
Can you see the trend??? No one votes and no one cares and no one want the job
