Listening to the news last night some guy said 20% of registered voters in New Orleans would need to vote in favor of removing her from office.

On the face 20% doesn't seem that high. However, only 48k voted when she came up for re-election. Out of the 48k she had a majority vote.

I just don't see 20% taking their time to trot down to physical poling location and submitting a vote.

I'm not convinced a semi-concerted effort couldn't get that at this point.

Basically NOBODY voted in the last election because it was roundly presented as essentially "uncontested." People didn't see any of the opponents as genuinely serious. I actually didn't think they were, but I still voted for the Vietnamese lady under the 'anybody else HAS TO BE BETTER' premise.

If you competed with the plaintiff attorneys for TV ad time during a Saints game you could probably get some traction and a good turn out.

Someone would need to pool money and spearhead it.

She says ‘I had to go to Paris, I had to go to Switzerland, and I had to go all over the world, to be an ambassador and I’m going to do that again. Because where I go matters. Well, guess what? When you go to juvenile court and you sit with the perpetrator while the victims are jaw dropped at the sight of the Mayor coming in to sit with the man who stuck a gun in their faces, that sends a message, too.”

Dr. Robert Collins of Dillard University

quote:

Dillard University professor Dr. Robert Collins said the taxpayers deserve an explanation from Mayor Cantrell.

“I think the perception that the voters have, whether it’s fair or unfair, is that she’s out of touch and that she’s more interested with activities outside of the city of New Orleans than within the city of New Orleans,” said Dr. Collins. “What does the city get from that sister-city agreement? Is it just symbolic? Are there some trade negotiations that went on, are we gonna get some import or export deals?”

quote:

“Basically they’re the last resort. In essence, the council is saying we’ve exhausted all other possibilities,” said Public Policy Professor for Dillard University, Robert Collins, Ph.D. “So we now have to hold members of the Mayor’s office in contempt.”

Dr. Collins said contempt of council motions are very rare.

“What’s problematic for the mayor, even her closest allies on the council who normally stick with her regardless of the issue have basically walked away on this issue,” he said. ““If all seven elected members of the council are struggling to get the information they need, imagine if a citizen was wanting to get information on their property or something.”

While the fight between the council and mayor’s office has taken another turn, Dr. Collins said it’s not unusual.

“In any mayor’s second term we always see the council start to assert its independence and drift away from the mayor,” he said. “Part of that is political because there are always city council members interested in running for mayor.”

He said it’s a historical pattern in politics, and adds part of it is of the mayor’s own creation by not responding to requests from the council in a timely manner.

The contempt motions will now go before the city attorney who will most likely refer the charges to District Attorney Jason Williams.

“In the end, I’m comfortable in predicting the city council will get everything that they’ve requested,” said Collins. “I think the mayor is going to continue to fight them, but the law is very clear and it’s on the side of the city council.”

While noble, I wouldn't hold my breath on that Dr Collins. It's going to take an investigation on a higher level to get to the bottom of all of this.

“You’re talking about France, from which we’ve come, meaning a part of the fabric of the City of New Orleans. You’re talking about France that has an ambassador living in the City of New Orleans. You’re talking about France that has supported a full time position on resiliency for the City of New Orleans because we’re on the front lines of climate change,” Cantrell said. “You’re talking about France that has artists in residence right here in the City of New Orleans, over four of them. You’re talking about France that is embedded in the fabric of the history of this city, will continue to be. So me nurturing that relationship is a responsibility that I have as Mayor of the City of New Orleans.

The simple fact that Latoya and Broom have been re-elected alone should prove to anyone with half a pea for a brain that Louisiana is beyond hope.

I mean, y’all can think happy thoughts all you like. Knock yourself out, but it’s not going to do anything but get worse from here, and it’s because the people themselves are just that retarded that they actually voted for more of this shite.

It’s over.

Sadly, it’s going to take a miracle to save it. I’ve been a huge defender of New Orleans my entire life and proud to be from there. That shite is over with, it’s not the same New Orleans that I, nor my parents or grandparents grew up in. fricking shame really. I hate that we’ve let leadership just completely ruin it and smile in our faces while doing it. frick the ones that keep on voting for this same shite over and over again.
