I think more and more this is just about grabbing natural resources. This war has made it obvious that you can have a poor conventional army, but as long as there are nukes I play, no one will be invading you.

Yes, in addition there’s a bolt hole that’s half way stripped but you can get a somewhat tight fit with the stud turned exactly 37.4 degrees past first resistance, and you rationalized that it will be ok since you “aren’t going to put anything heavy on that shelf anyway”.

Nothing to my knowledge. But that doesn’t negate the fact that it’s rich in rare materials. Are you implying this war is about nazis? Not iron, petro and warm water ports?

I think the issue was your implication that our war in Afghanistan was about rare minerals.
I don’t think it’s absurd to say that natural resources play a part in Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine, but there are other more obvious reasons (land bridge to Crimea, buffer state between Russia and NATO/EU, etc.).

This is an interesting article discussing the shift to nato based weapon systems that Ukraine is starting to undertake. It points out the irony of the situation where Russia, in attempting to keep Ukraine from joining NATO, is going to end up pushing it into NATO.

After this "Engagement", Russia won't dare try to frick with NATO. Sure they'll do some posturing, and make idle threats, but we all know that that's just them trying to save face in front of their friends and the girl they like (China).
And we also want China to see what they would be going up against in Taiwan.
Hell, right now NATO could demand that Hong Kong be turned back over to Britain, and China would seriously consider it.
