It would be weird if the President of Portugal was on the Grammy’s begging for weapons, the President of an actively invaded county - not so much.
Within the US, the ongoing political re-alignment that has typically progressive Hollywood being openly pro-war is weird. But Zelensky begging is just being a rational actor on his part.
As for why the US. Well, there are 3 countries with a defense industry large enough to export a massive arsenal: China, Russia, and the US. China doesn’t export, and Russia certainly isn’t going to supply Ukraine now, so….the US becomes the country that is most logical to ask.

There’s no real way to argue you’re point because “weirdness” is subjective, and the last time we aided a country like this was in 1940 (before the ubiquity of TV), but in a hypothetical framework in which TV was ubiquitous in 1940, I can almost guarantee you that Churchill would have been given some TV time by some sympathetic network to broadcast a plea for continuation and escalation of Lend-Lease.

In any case, our weapons are keeping an out-matched military in the fight. Our diplomacy is funneling resources into supporting the flow of weapons into Ukraine and easing the refugee crisis (as best as we can). NATO, with as much as it needs to be reformed in some ways, is still proving necessary to the stability of Europe from Russian expansionism.

And Russia would have had theirs if the west hadn’t enabled Russia in WW2. The west is helping The Ukraine just as they helped Russia beat Germany because it’s in their best interest.
It’s not like in 1939 Russia was Mr.Clean.
In 1939 Germany started it all. In 2022 Russia did. I see little difference really. I’m sure in 39 Germany could blame the Jews, the west and the Versailles Treaty or the fact they had to protect fellow Germans much as Russia is blaming everyone now.

I disagree and find it disturbing that an ex actor is begging for money from us so frequently Do you think its wise to spend so much on that countries conflict with all the issues we have here?

Not that it's a zero sum game....but I'd much rather pay for the design, development, and production of high tech weaponry than pay for TANF, SNAP, or some other welfare shite.
Letting Ukraine kill ruskies with it is just saving us a bunch of life cycle and disposal costs.

I find it less objectionable than other forms of government spending.
Effectively, this is the government buying actual goods from US manufacturers who are employing US workers.
Regardless of the fact that these goods are being immediately given away, this is better than the money printer handout that caused post-Covid inflation.
This also represents money spent on material goods, and not “studies” on anything, or cash handouts to foreign countries to ambiguously fight gender inequality, or any of the other stupid shiite the government spends money on.
A month and a half in: 20% of Russian military capacity is eliminated, no US troops were directly involved, and the guy pumping in overtime hours at the Stinger missile factory got to buy one hell of a steak dinner for his family.

The investment in the decline of Russian military influence has been a real bargain up to now. Totally worth it.

It’s made me realize that this so called demise of the American economy, military and influence is completely unfounded. Not a perfect country with way too much internal division, America to me remains by far the greatest country. Economically, militarily and common sense wise.

MIC has plenty of revenue, bruh.I am all for US production and innovation of weaponry that our troops use to protect US assets, but giving them away with no return or even promise of return in sight is potato logic.
The amount of equipment we donated in ME free of charge has put us in multi-trillion dollar hole.
