I disagree. The USA has been the voice of reason and reality throughout this conflict. We have allowed Europeans to solve European problems while ensuring we have just enough presence to not be accused of neglect. Which will only serve to increase goodwill across all of the EU.

Absolutely. The US has walked a difficult line and so far has hit the point as well as possible. Russia's isolation and the increased cooperation between the US and Europe has the potential to pay dividends for a long time, especially with China.

When did you go through? I was Class 06-06.
So funny story about that time. When I enlisted, it was as a 09S that came with a 10K signing bonus or something close. But the bonus couldn't be paid until you commissioned. Well once you commissioned, you were no longer enlisted so therefore ineligible for a enlisted signing bonus.
Told the two classes before mine, and a couple after, we had a few choices:
1. Wait for Congress to unfrick the bonus. Very few took this because...well....Congress. Congress did in fact unfrick the bonus a few years later.
2. Breach of contract on the US Army side. You could leave OCS, no harm, no foul, not owing anything. My roommate took this one.
3. Transfer to the reserve component, which did have the legislation to pay out a 10k bonus. Nice chunk of my class took this one. We were mostly college op after all.
4. Take SLRP in lieu of the bonus. Uh, CHECK PLEASE! Three years of service and I had 40K of student loans paid off.

Im so old I can remember COL Nett (sp) still being alive, we ran everywhere with the drums in the back of the formation, polished the cannon, and wore ascots.
We also ate chow in a 45 second blur.

I came from a line unit and had made SGT in 3 years so I was accustomed to bullshite but I'm serious worst 3 months of my Army time.
What saved it was Bob Dole has a grand nephew (?) or whatever in my class and he was our graduation speaker. He shite canned his old lady and drank with us until 2 or 3 a m sitting on a pic nick table off the parade ground. We couldnt go off post because the class in front of us destroyed a hotel and put some people in the hospital.
Bob Dole was a great man and a great soldier in my book. It would get quiet and he would say "you guys dont understand how great it is to be around soldiers again".

Did you have the fortune of wearing the black berets during a July summer in Columbus? Nothing like being covered in sweat just marching to class in the morning.
I still remember our first two week FTX during that time. We got back on the buses....no problem.
We entered the enclosed barracks after two weeks of no showers in the hot Georgia summer. I think half my platoon had to hold it down from yakking everywhere. My god the smell.
I'd never do it again, but I'll be damned if I still don't have some great memories of those times.

Didn't have any celebrity members, but our Dining In was.....epic.
I remember carrying my cadre NCO out of the hallway in to one of our vacant rooms so he didn't get caught being completely shite-faced in our dorms that night. We woke up the next morning, everyone completely hung over. Our company commander walked through the hallway, saw us, said "oh frick it. I was there Aug - Nov. I remember running to building 4 every day....sweating a shite ton...then sitting in building 4 air conditioned class trying to stay awake for some boring legal class or something. That was torture.

I feel your pain. The only benefit we had is that we could go to the Dunkin donuts (or whatever that coffee shop was there in building four) and get unlimited coffee. We would pay a certain amount and get unlimited refills. I think we made them pay for that.

The idea of taking soldiers as prisoners is just odd for me. If you come in my house and try to kill me then I'ma kill you first and legally have the right to.
I feel the same about another country's soldiers coming into a globally recognized country. I believe there is a valid argument for take no prisoners in Ukraine's current situation and it not constitute a war crime.

The policy revolves around a take no prisoners approach results in no soldiers giving up and everyone fighting to the death resulting in more WIAs and KIAs on both sides.
Again, I acknowledge the logistical nightmare that POWs can be for an army.
