Given Russia's apparently gargantuan comms issues, how would a fleet of convential bombers even be effective in this war?
They presumably wouldn't be able to hit anything besides obvious targets out of fear of friendly fire, and they have little if anything to address the slew of AA munitions that have flooded the country.

They also dont have a vast supply of guided bombs like the US does.
There are rumors of a Russian plane dropping a bomb on Their own troops within the last two days.

We would never do that. Absolutely unheard of

Those VSS's must be way more common that I previously thought

The Ukies have captured themselves some encrypted Russian radios from a Spetznaz team in the Kyiv area
How do you know those are from the Spetsnaz?

Yes but they do have lots and lots of dumb bombs. If Putin decides he has to level Ukraine to win then I don't believe he will have a problem with using thousands of dumb bombs on Ukrainian cities.

I don't think the have enough air superiority to send waves of Tu-95's on carpet bombing missions

Should have made this clearer, the weaponry and equipment indicates either SOF like Spetsnaz or a very well equipped recon team attached to probably the 1st or 4th GTA.
It's what the tweet said.
You can believe it because twitter never lies (sarcasm alert).

If Putin didn't care about the small things like knocking out knocking out the Ukrainian air defense and making sure his logistics were set up, what makes you think he will care about a little thing like air superiority. This is about the prestige of Mother Russia!

They've been using their strategic bombers to launch cruise missiles, probably from within Russian territory. OSINT on twitter will post once in a while that the strategic bomber comm network is active and to expect missile attacks imminently.

Ah. I just find it hard to believe that those weapons were from some super special unit. No advanced optics, lasers, lights, nothing. There is some armored vehicle operator headgear, though.

Well the Ukraine is supposed to have better NNGs and optics than Russia and the Ukraine has been buying commercial NVGs using crypto. So it is possible that Russian forces don't have advanced optics after all. Plus the Russian supporters on the internet are saying that advanced optics are not that big of a deal. The metal sights on the AK is just as good as the fancy stuff the west has. "After all the USA spent millions to develop a pen that writes in space while the Russians just took a pencil." (I am not joking about Russian supporters on twitter using that argument either).

I dont think the Russians have much of that. They certainly dont have night vision.

Why did you have to put LOL at the end of that? Russian intelligence is probably monitoring this board and they probably would have thought it was a good idea to send Tu-95s in at treetop height if you had not put LOL at the end of that post.

If they're "special operations" or spetsnaz units as being claimed, they almost certainly have night vision.

And a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin that the Russian military is not moving or fighting at night: Most movement starts just before dawn and occurs during the day because they don’t have night vision and are not trained in night vision, which contributed to slower than expected progress.

This was 3 weeks ago. They are fighting a war like its 1960 not 2022.
This does raise a question; at the height of the Iraq war when we had 200k+ troops there, how much that would be more specialized Green Berets/Rangers? It couldn't have been more than 2k or so right?
