Fourth Russian general killed in action, Ukraine claims Ukrainian officials say they have killed a fourth Russian general in a sign that Moscow's commanders are increasingly being forced to lead from the front. Anton Gerashchenko, an advisor at Kyiv's interior ministry, claimed on Telegram that Ukrainian forces killed Russian Major General Oleg Mityaev during intense fighting on the outskirts of the south-eastern city of Mariupol. The BBC cannot independently verify this claim and Moscow has yet to comment on reports of his death. Gerashchenko wrote that Mityaev was the commander of the 150th motorized rifle division and posted a photo of what he said was the dead officer. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also reported the death of another Russian general during his nightly address from Kyiv, but didn't name him. Russia is believed to have about 20 Major Generals in Ukraine leading the invasion.

Russia Deploys a Mystery Munition in Ukraine
American intelligence officials have discovered that the barrage of ballistic missiles Russia has fired into Ukraine contain a surprise: decoys that trick air-defense radars and fool heat-seeking missiles.
The devices are each about 1 foot long, shaped like a dart and white with an orange tail, according to an American intelligence official. They are released by the Iskander-M short-range ballistic missiles that Russia is firing from mobile launchers across the border, the official said, when the missile senses that it has been targeted by air defense systems.
Each is packed with electronics and produces radio signals to jam or spoof enemy radars attempting to locate the Iskander-M, and contains a heat source to attract incoming missiles. The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about intelligence matters, described the devices on the condition of anonymity.
....
That suggests to me that the Russians place some value on keeping that technology close to home and that this war is important enough to them to give that up,” Lewis said. “They’re digging deep, and maybe they no longer care, but I would care if I were them.
“I think that there are some very excited people in the U.S. intelligence community right now.”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning Russian President Vladimir Putin as a war criminal, a rare show of unity in the deeply divided Congress.
The resolution, introduced by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and backed by senators of both parties, encouraged the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague and other nations to target the Russian military in any investigation of war crimes committed during Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Russia had demanded full demilitarization of Ukraine when Putin ordered the invasion Feb. 24 but now appears to be backing away from that demand.

The resolution pretty intentionally avoids any indication of US involvement in a war. It's a condemnation of Russia's actions, an encouragement to investigate any war crimes, and the last point expressly says to use our "voice, vote, and influence" to hold Russia accountable. That sounds much more like a solidarity and sanctions stance than banging a war drum.

My point is that the international community is going to have to rewrite the definition of a war crime just because they angry at Putin and want soooo badly for him to be a war criminal.

We were watching Zelenski's address on the AM news. I said to my wife, "just a couple of years ago, he was a comedic actor."
She quickly replied, "He's their Ronald Reagan."
Just another reason in the long list of reasons why I married her.

Waging aggressive war was one of the specific charges the Nazi leaders were convicted on at Nuremberg.

Then everyone should focus on that instead of weak cases like bombing hospitals and apartment buildings. Because those in and of themselves do not constitute a war crime.

This is specifically illegal under International Humanitarian Law. So yes, it is most certainly a war crime.

It’s not nearly as black and white as you’ve been led to believe. It’s about intent and proportionality. In fact, if the Ukrainians happen to be using the hospital to house troops then they are actually the war criminals. Not saying that’s what happened but just because a hospital was bombed does not mean there was a war crime. We’ve bombed plenty of hospitals and schools.

I'm fully aware of that.

Then why bring it up?
The point remains they bombed a hospital that was not being used for military purposes.
It's a war crime by legal definition.

Politics aside (which in my mind has zero to do with the comment), if you can't see the parallels between the two men, then I can't help you. Both were actors and were/are charismatic leaders that took on the Russians (hopefully with the same outcome). I just hadn't put the two together until she said it.
All I was originally trying to say is that she's smarter than me, but a couple of knuckleheads (yourself included) had to make it about something else....
