Putin is attempting to manipulate ongoing discussions about a ceasefire and future peace in Ukraine, likely in an effort to undermine Ukrainian-US-European unity around a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accepted Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal to hold bilateral negotiations in Turkey on May 15.
I'm a bit slow in the ways of Eastern Europe but this situation is now starting to shake out. Here we go -
- 'Coalition of Willing' get Trump's buy-in for a demand for a 30-day ceasefire, with a deadline of today, May 12;
- Putin, wanting to disrupt this deadline and the Western position, counters by offering a bilateral meeting in Istanbul on May 15; and
- The Ukrainians, seeing that Putin left himself open, quickly accept his offer.
Now:
The Coalition of the Willing are enforcing their May 12 deadline (today) to Russia to agree to a ceasefire; and
Putin, seeing that the the Ukrainians didn't refuse his offer as expected, is now stuck with actually meeting with Zelensky on Thursday or backing out of his own deal, showing the White House yet again who wants a ceasefire and who doesn't.
This demonstation to Trump is critically important to Kyiv now. With moves like this, they keep him sweet and continuing to send the US weapons and support.
Meanwhile, the Russians are already backing out of Putin's own proposal -

Peskov commented on Europe's statement to impose new sanctions if Moscow does not declare a ceasefire today: "Before this warning, we had already heard the warning the day before yesterday, if you remember. They were also voiced in a rather ultimatum form. Such ultimatum language is unacceptable for Russia. It's not appropriate. One cannot talk to Russia in such a language."
quote:LINK
Peskov outlined Russia's condition for a ceasefire. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia would only support a ceasefire if Western arms supplies to Ukraine are halted. According to him, otherwise, it would give Kyiv an advantage amid Russia's offensive.

Vladimir Dzhabarov, deputy chair of the Federation Council’s foreign affairs committee, rejected the notion entirely, saying Zelenskyy had not been invited to Istanbul in the first place. “Who invited him to Istanbul? Does he really think our president would meet personally with someone who has blood on his hands, who betrayed the memory of the great heroism of both Ukrainians and the entire Soviet people — the heroism of his own grandfather? Who is he, that we should sit down with him at the negotiating table?” Dzhabarov said.
So... more clarity for the White House, more defense armaments going to Ukraine and more sanctions on Russia. As importantly, any talk of giving Russia relief on the sanctions is dead. Not a bad day's work.

Trump says he hopes Zelensky, Putin will attend Istanbul peace talks on May 15

Editor's note: This is a developing story and is being updated.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism that President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend peace talks in Istanbul on May 15, suggesting the meeting could yield "a good result."
"I think we may see a good result from Thursday's meeting in Turkey between Russia and Ukraine," Trump said during a press conference on May 12.
"I believe both leaders are going to be there. I even thought about flying over — I'm not sure where I'll be on Thursday, I have so many meetings."

I know he is dead. He was a deepstate Neocon War Monger... a prime example of the type of person who us MAGA types consider the enemy. You should stick to watching your WWE and leave more complex subject matter to the adults

Something I would watch closely, maximum pressure across the board. Kherson islands are now almost entirely under Russian control.
This will be an impossible bait that Zelensky won’t be able to turn away from. Acute manpower shortages are showing everywhere, Kherson has been stripped bare for Kursk and the east.
I’m not talking about some massive landing but rather an Oskil sized bridgehead across the Dniepr. Large enough to remain rooted against Ukrainian counter attacks but not so large that it requires immense resources.
We’ve seen Ukraine struggling immensely with AD and have little remaining deep strike capability. HIMARS are now risking their next with every launch and Russian UAVs Forpost and Orion are creating a new reality for the AFU on the battlefield.
I think this is why such urgency is being placed German Taurus transfers. Ukraine acquiring a few hundred missiles could delay those plans for 3-6 months which would realistically turn into a year with winter.
All the Z fanboys unrealistic daydreams and hopium from the last 3 years could start playing out. No ceasefires, no negotiations, it was always a one way road."

I listened to McCain before he was cut off and there is nothing he said that I was upset about, and the summation you posted is slanted and not factual, but I had already guessed that.

Has the Kiev Independent given any updates on Cocainegate on the Kiev Express?
Didn't look like "Spoons" Mertz was thinking about Taurus missiles.
What type of magic act was "Bags" Macron performing for Sir Kier?
Was Hunter lurking in the background somewhere?
