The world is really going crazy when I agree with Ilhan Omar this much:

The consequences of flooding Ukraine with billion dollars in weapons, likely not limited to just military-specific equipment but also including small arms + ammo, are unpredictable & likely disastrous.
Specially when they are given to paramilitary groups w/out accountability.
I support giving Ukraine the resources it needs to defend its people, I just have legitimate concerns about the size and scope.
The general rule of thumb seems to be that whoever we arm in a conflict will usually be our enemy in a decade or less.

I’m behind here. What was Poland’s proposal?
The Polish deal to supply Ukrain with jets that has been kicked around for a few days now. Earlier today it broke that Poland had proposed to fly their jets to Ramstein and have the US take possession of them. The US would then supply the Ukrainians with those jets. At which point the US would then replace those former Polish jets with nice, shiny new jets.
Poland announced that proposal, seemingly, without even running it through the proper US channels. It caught everyone here off guard. The Pentagon later came out and said that was not a tenable proposal.
ETA: I'm wrong on the replacement jets. They wouldn't be baw jets, but used jets that we already have, but newer than the ones Poland would supply to Ukraine.
ETA Again: I just want to point out that my phone automatically changed new to baw. I think I just won something.

How else are you going to have constant war?
My Pops had a theory when he was alive that the expiration date on munitions had as much to do with wars around the globe as anything else. I've come to kind of agree with him.

They were just going to fly their MIGs to Ramstein AB and leave them there for us to do with whatever we like
Don't forget that we were going to give them a bunch of shiny new F-35s in return for the Migs

Wasn't there also a proposal that we'd backfill those Migs with F-16's and 35's?
Widely discussed as the plan, although I didn't see Poland say that part out loud.

Democracy is a demonstrably flawed system.
Phase 1- Majority race engages in democratic ethnic cleansing. Think of Andrew Jackson, or the Dinka in contemporary South Sudan
Phase 2- Golden age. A clear order guides a true nation-state. 1900-1960 in the USA.
Phase 3- Theft. As economic growth plateaus, the 51% begin to legislate theft from the 49%. 1960-2000 in the USA.
Phase 4- Colonization. A stronger power overwhelms the klepto-democracy. Elections do nothing because the nation is economically beholden to a foreign power that's not democratic. This is the state of the present-day US.

How would someone go about getting a Ukrainian girlfriend? I guess it would be poor form to hang out at the refugee centers hitting on the hot ones. There have to be a lot of young women that speak English and want to hang out for the summer, maybe if things work out come back to the US. Do Ukrainian women shave their legs and armpits? I guess for food and lodging and good company they'd probably compromise on that.
Make sure you find one who actually wants to leave and not go back. There’s a whole thread about how this can go wrong.

BREAKING - Pentagon response to Poland's proposal on jets: "We will continue to consult with Poland and our other NATO allies about this issue and the difficult logistical challenges it presents, but we do not believe Poland’s proposal is a tenable one.”
Maybe I really was right earlier, leaders closest to the action are spouting stuff off to media and on social media to pressure others into acting as they want.
I know Russia seems to be struggling here, but this mess does not exactly project strength either. NATO doesn’t appear on the same page with one another. They need to get their shite together.

Russian soldier breaks into Ukranian liquor store, gets drunk, passes out, and winds up a POW:
That may be top ten drunks I've ever seen pulled material.
ETA: Correction, that guy is a Chechen Kadyrovite. The rest of his squad was wiped out near Kharkov.

I know people will use this as evidence of Russia's true character
But seems pretty natural to me in a war. What it really shows is that this is a real war where there are likely to be very prolonged consequences and isolation. I know that is obvious, but my generation is used to things being fixed up and put back together quickly.

Well if Russia is known for anything it is the high quality of the vehicles produced in Russian state owned factories.

Seeing the little kids of war via Twitter, YT and TV etc is getting to me a bit. Two weeks of this has to be hell on earth for them.

War has always sucked in every way. We just get to see it on social media in real time now.

That will only serve to piss off the American elites even more, sounds like a great idea!
What kind of control would the home offices of these companies even have over something like this happening? If the Ford plant in Russia chooses to keep making cars even though the "home offices" in America suspend their operations, what could even be done to stop them?
This could add an interesting new wrinkle to the push to bring domestic manufacturing back to America.
