My question regarding what reserves Russia has to exploit a breakthrough isn't a gotcha question. I'm trying to assess if Russia can make a breakthrough on the battlefield and push Ukraine QUICKLY to capitulate.

Russia obviously doesn't have that capability as exhibited from Feb 2022 to now. First, it doesn't have the logistics required. Second it does not have combined arms striking power able to coordinate all efforts. Third, it does not have air dominance to cover such a striking force. Fourth, it does not have the ability to gather such a striking force in secret.

You're talking to a person who is fundamentally confused about everything in life. His identify. His sexuality. His politics. His basic moral compass.

Don't ask him to explain who Russia invading is good. And how Ukraine resisting the invasion is bad.

He simply cannot explain it. He knows how he feels. He just can't explain why he feels that way. Which is a very consistent part of his personality disorder

Some key paragraphs from the linked Forbes article:

quote:

The Lancet, made by Kalashnikov offshoot ZALA, is Russia’s standard long-range loitering munition. It has proven a significant threat to Ukrainian artillery, air defense and other targets well behind the lines. In fact, it has been one of Russia’s most successful weapons. If the military have a complaint about the Lancet it is that supplies are limited, partly due to the high cost: about 3 million rubles or $30,000. ZALA enjoys a comfortable relationship with the Ministry of Defense and has little fear of competitors.

But such companies do not deliver quality products at speed or low cost. There is a reason why Russia, with a large aerospace defense sector, still had to import Shahed drones from Iran.

quote:

According to Ukrainian analyst Serhii Flash, these drones are making strikes at depths of up to 30 miles behind the lines. They are not particularly effective against moving targets; this is probably because the fixed-wings are not nearly as agile as FPVs and can lose a target at the last second.

quote:

“It's very unlikely they can compete with state corporations and especially with Zala,” Samuel Bendett, an expert Russian drones and adviser to the CNA and CNAS thinktanks, told me. “It is used with Molniya on a limited scale by Espanola group — combat group that specializes in testing and using air and ground robotic system.”

quote:

That is good news for Ukraine. If the ‘mass production’ facility is only producing tens of drones a month, then the impact will be limited. But the simplicity of design and the use of readily available materials means that scaling up production might not be that difficult.

Anyone can cherry pick.

It goes through Ukraine who has a say in the matter. It also less expensive than since mid 2021 in Europe from other sources. The exception was Summer of 2022 when traders went full panic mode not understanding that other sources were available, namely Norway and via pipeline.

The clueless will remain clueless because they only follow marching orders without having critical thinking skills.

Kyiv Independent launches fundraiser to support Ukraine's front-line media after US aid freeze

by The Kyiv Independent news desk January 30, 2025 9:32 PM

The Kyiv Independent launched a fundraiser to support three independent local media outlets in Ukraine, whose funding was cut as a result of a 90-day pause on U.S. foreign aid ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump. The goal is to raise 40,000 pounds ($50,000) through GoFundMe.

"We couldn’t just stand by and watch our colleagues and partners lose their teams and suspend their operations while independent journalism remains one of the most crucial jobs in Ukraine today, especially near the front lines," said Daryna Shevchenko, CEO of the Kyiv Independent.

The smaller, local media outlets were hit the hardest by the U.S. government’s recent aid suspension. Many of them are the sole source of reliable local news for their communities. They are small teams working in difficult conditions, usually on very small salaries, driven by their loyalty to the local community. The Kyiv Independent is raising funds for three local media outlets: Tsukr from Sumy, Gwara Media from Kharkiv, and MykVisti from Mykolaiv.

The Kyiv Independent has donated $10,000 (8,000 pounds) of its own money to the fundraiser, with the goal of raising a total of $50,000. This will allow the newsrooms to pay their journalists, keep the lights on, and continue their reporting. "We are fortunate to be financially stable and unaffected by the U.S. aid freeze crisis—thanks to all of you. We know where you stand, and that is behind independent journalism in Ukraine,” Shevchenko said.

Oil flows through Russia’s Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga appeared to pause, backing up Kyiv’s claims of a successful drone strike on a pumping station.

It would present a significant new supply threat for the global oil market if it were to be confirmed that Ukrainian drone strikes have damaged the pipeline system feeding Ust-Luga, halting oil shipments from the port for a prolonged period.

A person with knowledge of the deliveries said that Ust-Luga flows dropped to zero on Jan. 29. Shipping data seen by Bloomberg indicate a tanker left early Wednesday, although there is a gap in vessel signals after that. Neither provided a reason for the apparent decline, and there can be periods when ships don’t load anyway.

A Ukrainian security official said on Wednesday that the nation’s drones had struck Russia’s Andreapol pumping station on the Baltic Pipeline System-2, which feeds Ust-Luga, causing the link to halt. The claim couldn’t be verified at the time and the press service of Russia’s oil-pipeline operator declined to comment by phone on Thursday.

The port handled about 650,000 barrels a day of crude last year, or about 20% of Russia’s total seaborne flows, data compiled by Bloomberg show.

The Kyiv Independent” is literally an arm of the CIA.

You’re an “independent” media outlet that started 3 months before the Russia invasion, your entire staff worked for the State Department and all of your funding comes from the US.

Uh huh ?

Spot on. Was always super cringe seeing the Ukraine lads posting ISW and Kyiv Indy links multiple times per day and breathlessly commenting on both.

Some go into the troll category, others propaganda victims, others are legit spreaders of propaganda using all the well known tricks. It’s super weird to see this on an American sports board I’ve been coming to for decades.

SirWinston simps for Putin because he hates Jews, and also because he's playing a character and loves to troll.

Lima also hates Jews, but his primary motivation is that he is a Russian Orthodox Church member who believes that religious diversity is terrible. So, he wants Russia to rule Ukraine so that it can get rid of evangelical Christians like me and and reimpose the ROC on everyone there.

JB is literally on Putin's payroll.

OML is the strange combo of batty/evil/chemically impaired.

trinidad and texag have my sympathy.

The EU and 99% of all European countries are out for one of two things:

1.Europe/themselves

2. To see if they can screw you over or get you to do the heavy lifting for them.

Especially the Germans.

Finland announces $206 million military package for Ukraine

by Martin Fornusek January 31, 2025 3:18 PM

The Finnish government has approved its 27th military aid package for Ukraine worth 198 million euros ($206 million), the Finnish Defense Ministry said on Jan. 31.

This brings Finland's total defense aid provided to Ukraine since the outbreak of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022 to 2.5 billion euros ($2.6 billion). As with the previous Finnish aid packages, the content of the latest tranche is classified.

"This package of almost 200 million euros has been built in close cooperation with Ukraine. We are providing exactly the kind of support that will help Ukraine defend itself in an acute situation on the front," Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen said in a press release.

"It is up to us Europeans how Europe's security continues to develop. Securing Ukraine's independence and ability to defend itself is the most important thing right now," Hakkanen said.
