Apparently Russia sucks at holding airfields

Competent Russian troops appear to just be stretched too thin.
Holding their gains may be increasingly difficult, especially if occupied cities continue to see large scale protesting. Which is why I almost expect to see those demonstrations ramp up to the point that we see the greener Russian troops snap and do something stupid.
If faced with an offensive fight from the Ukranians, Russia can't use their better fighting forces to control those cities and towns. I think that increases the likelihood of seeing shite come undone in a bad way.

Ukraine is fighting for their country and it just proves that heart can still win you wars even in modern times

It’s heart and modern warfare. Numbers alone won’t win you a war.

quote:At face value I have zero issue with them promising not to join NATO & Crimean INDEPENDENCE...as long as there's a clause included that rolls that back if Russia meddles in future Ukrainian/Crimean affairs. But Russia needs to be told to GFY when it comes to Donestk & Lugansk and pay reparations (including abandoning all military equipment currently in Ukraine) for invading a sovereign country.
LONDON, March 7 (Reuters) - Russia has told Ukraine it is ready to halt military operations "in a moment" if Kyiv meets a list of conditions, the Kremlin spokesman said on Monday.
Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was demanding that Ukraine cease military action, change its constitution to enshrine neutrality, acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory, and recognise the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent states.
Of course Putin won't agree to any of that. Reparations will have to be large enough to deter any country from using their military to blackmail a country into changing its constitution/sovereignty. They would likely come from the seizec Oligarch assets and Vlad knows he's a dead man walking once his backers lose that much money. I do wonder what his endgame is/was. Was Ukraine a trap for the west? Did he calculate NATO would jump in and start WW3? Was he playing chicken and neither country blinked? For anyone with a Poli Sci view of things, this never made sense at face value.

I think Putin has way overplayed his hand in all of this.

then facing the thawed ground with tanks and other heavy equipment literally getting stuck in the mud.
Some places the mud is already proving to be a thorn in the side of the Russians. There are photos floating around of Russian vehicles carrying wood on the sides or between the grill and windshield. Some idiots thought that the Russians were adding wooden "armor" to their trucks, but looking at the stuff, it is obviously to get traction to remove vehicles from the muck. If it's already a problem the first week of March, April and May are gonna be disastrous.

Putin believed the false propaganda that his yes men were feeding him. He believed that Zalinsky and the rest of the Ukrainian government would flee and the pro-Russian MPs would form a government that is friendly to Moscow. He did not expect the war to last longer than a week and he did not expect Ukraine to fight like they have.

I really don't understand what Russia's plan will be even if they completely occupy the country. Taking over parts that want to be Russia is one thing, but trying to control giant swaths that don't want to be Russia is impossible.

This would be such symmetrical karma. It would make me so happy

If we’re going into World War III, I’d prefer for us to meme our way there in a fun way.

Putin has drunk the pan-Slavic Kool aid like Hitler drank the pan-Germanic Kool aid. He truly believes the Slavs are one people who should be united under the Russian umbrella. He's a thug and a kleptocrat but he also believes he has a messianic destiny. He would be easier to deal with if he was a garden variety sociopath.

"No indication #Russia preparing to move battalion tactical groups from elsewhere to shore up what they've put into #Ukraine, per senior US defense official"

If that's true, then I have no clue how Ruassia can sustain their current invasion
