I can't recall any posts where he was critical of anyone other than the pro-Ukrainian posters. Over time, that has created a definite image of a pro-Russian bias on his part. At least Lima and Trinidad don't try to disguise it.

NATO is the most powerful military alliance on the planet. It is juxtaposed against Russian interests. Now the latter fact may not bother you or me, but Russia has made it crystal clear it bothers them.
Sure it “bothers “ them because it serves as a major deterrent to their expansionist aims.

Gorbachev expressed interest in joining NATO
Why would an alliance formed to defend the West against Russia invite Russia in their group?

Yeltsin expressed interest in closer economic relations with the EU
Once upon a time Russia was in a global group called G8, but were kicked out for taking over Ukraine. Russia had opportunities, but they screwed up.

Gorbachev expressed interest in joining NATO. No offer was extended. Putin expressed interest in joining NATO. No offer was extended. Yeltsin expressed interest in closer economic relations with the EU. Instead, those things have been offered to lesser countries. Meanwhile NATO, an unfriendly military alliance in Russian estimation, is attempting to encroach on Russia
NATO is defensive only.
This is th weirdest revised history I've ever read (RT versions?)
Gorbachev never had the chance to ask to join NATO.
Yeltsin kind of made overtures... Putin rejected the very idea... on both counts, NATO has strict rules about non-corruption and democracy that they would not want to have to meet.
Orban is bucking to have Hungary be the first country kicked out of NATO

I think a Russian victory is good for Americans and Europeans. That's my ultimate rationale.
And for me, we as Americans, we're just Europeans on a different continent.

And that was just the other 7 being nice and trying to include the post-USSR Russia in the club... they were not in the top countries 8 in income, and belonged in the G20, not G8...

Lima, I may not always agree with your posts, but I've come to respect and listen to your viewpoints. Carry on, Sir.

Well, who do you think a Russian victory would be bad for? Or a Russian loss would be good for?
(please don't say Jews... but you're gonna say Jews...)

Russians slay 50 Ukrainian priests, destroy nearly 700 churches - President
11.12.2024 21:20
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the Russian occupiers had killed 50 priests and destroyed about 700 churches since the large-scale invasion.
The head of the Ukrainian state spoke of this in an interview with CBN, Ukrinform reports.
“The Russians treat various Ukrainian churches something like schools. That is, wherever they advanced into our territories, they destroyed schools and churches. Simply so that no trace of them remains. So a lot of different priests were captured or killed. They killed 50 clergymen. They killed them in different ways. There is evidence of how they tortured them. Why did they torture them? Only because they ‘should’ have served Patriarch Kirill and their church, but the priest is supposed to serve people and God,” Zelensky said.
He also noted that churches are also targeted by the invaders.
“What have they gained by destroying about 700 churches? They attacked them with bombs, missiles… And wherever they would enter the territory of our state, they would simply set them on fire,” the president noted.

Madyar’s Birds Regiment Expanded to Brigade
Ukraine’s 414th Separate Regiment of Strike Unmanned Aircraft Systems “Madyar’s Birds” is being expanded to a brigade.
This was announced by the unit’s commander Robert Brovdi, also known by his call sign “Madyar”.
“‘Madyar’s Birds’ are being transformed into a separate unmanned aerial systems (UAS) brigade,” Brovdi shared.
Thus, during just one year (2024), Madyar’s Birds evolved from a company into a separate battalion, a separate regiment, and a separate 414th Brigade of UAVs.
As part of the reform, the unit is increasing the number of personnel and expanding its competencies.

I wanted to see Ukraine win but it's not going to happen. Each day weakens their negotiating position. This is another foreign policy disaster. Putin will come out of this claiming that he stood down/defeated Nato.
Ukraine would have been much better off to have taken that peace deal early on. Less death, less destruction and less loss of territory. I imagine many Ukrainians have low moral and probably feel betrayed. I think that the west used them. The biggest mistake Ukraine made was listening to and trusting weak western leaders. But that is hindsight and water under the bridge now.
Continuing to pump billions in for a lost cause is crazy. This needs to end now. Ukraine is going to get a bad deal now. Russia will get what it asks for now or they will keep fighting. Ukraine cannot sustain that. The people of Ukraine are tired and want this to end.
Countries like Ukraine and Georgia are screwed by geographic location.

Exactly what was the peace deal?
Do you know, or are you just buying into Russian propaganda?
For instance, was Ukraine going to be partitioned? Were the Russians going to choose a new government? Who was going to enforce the peace? What restrictions would be placed on Ukraine? What would happen to Ukrainian soldiers and government officials?
Do you know the exact terms?

Do you think the terms will or are improving now? Has Ukraine's improved their position from that time?
Ukraine is in a weaker position now. This war is over.
If the US stops aid, it will be a collapse like you saw in South Vietnam after Congress stopped their aid. Europe will not and cannot sustain this.

Yes.
I think that Russian combat power is about to decline as they face shortages of armor and artillery. I think that Russian offensive progress has begun to slow, and Ukraine will get a better deal when they have stopped Russia and recreated relatively static front lines
ETA: Oh, and in February, Scholz will be replaced by Merz -- who has promised to immediately provide Taurus to Ukraine.

When in world history was the world's strongest military alliance "defensive only"?

I don't know, NATO was founded in 1949, so the last 75 years?
The only time NATO has invoked Article 5 was after 9/11. Maybe you can educate all of us and tell us what countries NATO has invaded.

Russia want to annex the eastern oblasts, remove Z, remove military and make Ukraine a puppet. So basically the end of Ukraine. Ukraine will rather fight then surrender its statehood.
