So Elon Musk is now making personal threats and charges of treason against American officials? Wow.

Perhaps Trump does understand the extraordinary opportunity his administration has to project American power. Interesting.

frick off. You’d never sign up as an infantryman because you are a soy with no balls.
Stop talking about projecting power unless you’re the type of man that would do it yourself
Pathetic

No, you don't understand. Trump apparently only picked Kellogg because he's crazy and that will convince Putin to come to the table.
Kellogg is playing bad cop so that Trump can play good cop.
That's really what we're supposed to believe.

The greatest power move in history was us vs Russia. It involved nerds with slide rules, not infantrymen

Seems that none of the former Soviet states want to sniff Russian arses again.

They say at least 100,000 ukranian "recruits" have abandoned the front and it could be as high as 200,000. Combine this with the casualties and they simply are done.
There was a BBC show where he visited a training ground and the average, average age was 45. The guy he spoke to was 51, he said they trained him to shoot but the problem was aiming, he put on his glasses and it was obvious he was legally blind.
Now encouraging them to lower the rate to 18 will just mean more dead and wont solve the shortage problem.
ukranians want this to end even if it means letting Russia keep what they have. Better agree quick or keeping what they have may very soon be the entire country.
And no joining NATO is not an option so cargo pants can drag us into a war with Russia.

Russia's naval base in Syria could be at risk. Would be a significant and humiliating loss for Putin.

Russia doesn't have any substantial forces that they can send to Syria. I like the suggestion from one of their milbloggers to send North Korean troops to Syria.
Seriously, the incredible speed at which the rebels have taken Aleppo makes me think that Assad is toast. I think that Russia is in real danger of losing its military bases in Syria.

If Ukraine joined NATO they would have the 2nd largest military in NATO and they would be the only NATO member with recent total war experience.
They won’t have it after this war is over. And they would be by far the most likely member to get the rest of us into a broader conflict

Regardless of what anyone "believes" about what is on paper or agreed to, we have several years (and counting) of demonstrable ongoing support (primarily) from the US but also from other NATO countries... fair to say the ship has sailed on that discussion
It’s very relevant when you still have people in this thread who claim we are obligated to defend them. We aren’t.

I found these very interesting secondhand quotes from Al-Joulani (leader of the Syrian rebels) from an interviewer last year:
That second quote is a reference to Obama's declaration that chemical weapons would be a red line and then doing nothing when Assad used them.
But I really wonder if Ukraine is directly assisting HTS with intelligence. I feel sure that they are.
I even wonder if the US is secretly giving Turkey intelligence that they then pass along. We still classify Joulani as a terrorist, but he's been quite clear for some time now that he opposes global jihad, even as he attacks ISIS and Al-Queda. I think that a lot of people in the West have decided that Joulani is one jihadist that we can live with. But that's very speculative.

quote:
As I think he’s made clear on other occasions, he doesn’t draw a line between the fighting that is going on in Syria with Russia and the regime in Syria and the fighting ongoing in Ukraine and views both as the product of Russia’s unchecked aggression in the years after 2014-2015. He and his group are no longer committed to whatever is meant by international jihad, that was crystal clear; they consider that it “only brought destruction and failure to their communities.”
quote:
One more thing to stress: They all told me that their fight is the same fight as the Ukrainians. They said, ‘You are fighting the Russians. If you had helped us at the time’—meaning 2013 after the chemical attacks—‘maybe things would have gone another way.’
