She added that Germany only issued a warrant for the diver's arrest, but he was not in the database of wanted persons used by the Border Service, which means that the German side did not enter his data there. As a result, he was not detained by Polish border guards.
Earlier, the German Spiegel reported that the Ukrainian, whom Germany was going to arrest in Poland for participating in the blowing up of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, left Polish territory because he was probably warned about the arrest.
Can Scholz do anything right?
As incompetent of an administration as Dementia Joe/Harris.

Russia is withdrawing some of its military forces from Ukraine to respond to a Ukrainian offensive into Russian territory, U.S. officials said, the first sign that Kyiv’s incursion is forcing Moscow to rejigger its invasion force.
The officials said the U.S. is still seeking to determine the significance of Russia’s move and didn’t say how many troops the U.S. assesses Russia is shifting. But the new U.S. assessment bolsters claims by Ukrainian officials who said last week’s surprise invasion of Kursk province had drawn Russian forces away from Ukraine, where Moscow’s advantage in manpower and equipment is allowing them to grind forward in several places.
Ukraine, meanwhile, sent tanks and other armored vehicles to reinforce troops that have stunned the Kremlin by seizing a chunk of Russian territory.
Russia having to fight on its own turf is still funny a week later.

The Biden administration said it wasn’t given prior warning about the operation and has sought in recent days to understand Ukraine’s goals.
Probably the smartest thing that Ukraine has done in a while. Someone in the Biden administration would have leaked it, held a press conference announcing it, or spent months telegraphing it like they did with Ukraine's counteroffensive last year.
quote:
Ukraine was also hoping that the incursion would force Russia to pull troops out of Ukraine, which happened in the last day or so, the official said.
If forcing Russia to remove forces from Ukraine to redeploy to Kursk was one of Ukraine's objectives then Russia it is working.

In Kyiv, Ukrainian officials gave their most detailed public comments yet on the reasons behind the operation, saying its aim was to destroy logistics and infrastructure that Russia uses to make war on Ukraine.
Russia “is sure that its territory is informally inviolable, and no one will destroy the logistics and infrastructure of the war” there, said Mykhailo Podolyak, a Ukrainian presidential adviser. “Today, Ukraine is showing that this is not the case.”
Yep, Mighty Russia isn't looking so mighty right about now.

The way to fight a rigid system is with a flexible one.
Another way to think about it is along the lines of chaos theory. Russia operates in a rigid system designed to reduce variables and decisions. They're very comfortable in a set piece environment.
Ukraine is behaving chaotically. And forcing Russia to join them in a kinetic environment. Now that they have proven that they will do anything , attack anywhere, etc it short circuits the Russian decision making apparatus.
Ukraine could do an amphibious landing on Crimea. Or insert airborne troops into Belgorod. Or anything else. And suddenly the war is no longer on Russia's terms.

Right. I saw it somewhere described as "war by spreadsheet," and I thought that was the perfect way to put it.

We have satellites. We saw the buildup. We more than likely have people embedded on the General Staff if not down to brigade level or below. Not being officially informed gives us deniability. But we knew.

That's from today's FT article, and I wonder what it means.

If they have to withdraw, it's not a defeat, they planned to all along. I bet they stay as long as Russia can't mount a meaningful counteroffensive, which may be quite a while.

This is also from the FT reporter:
That kinda sounds like planning to be there long term.

Yep. This is where Russia's space deficit really hurts them. They only have the satellites to take a picture of a specific place every two weeks. They can't get daily satellite photos of the front.

We might have known but that doesn’t mean that the Biden-Harris administration knew.

Yeah it is a lot of land for the time frame, you weird mouth-breather.
No it’s not. It’s an area of land half the size of Houston’s city limit. Half the size.
And the land was completely undefended. Now Ukraine says they may not even stay there and try to keep it.

You’d hope so, but then when you see how our govt. protected Trump it makes you wonder.
Stalin was told exactly when Hitler was attacking, and he blew it off. Just because you see and report things it doesn’t mean anyone is acting on the information.

LINKUkraine moving on Belgorod
From Aljazeera Looks like Ukies are a couple of km. deep.
Also saw a report from Lithuanian defense minister Russia moving troops from Kalingrad to Kursk.

Wrong
The Surokin line was there too, two lines of trenches, a forward system near the border and a system behind it. Dragons teeth were there too, just lacking massive minefields over a mile deep, then again maybe those were there too, we don't know at this point. There were troops in that trench system, not battle hardened ones and there were also Chechen troops behind them. Both were defeated

If tweet fails to load, click here. FWIW that second rail line is about 15-20 miles from the Ukrainian front lines based on most open source intelligence. Now that Russian reinforcements are on the way, IDK if they will be able to reach it.
