We will see a nuclear exchange between hostile countries sometime in the next 50 to 100 years. It is almost statistically guaranteed.

But it won't be Poland who starts it.

If I'm Taiwan I've had a secret nuclear weapons program for decades and if threatened by China I state in unmistakeable terms that I will use them if faced with national annihilation.

Argentina has decided to send weapons to Ukraine, according to Defense Minister Luis Alfonso Petri.

He said that Argentina will apply to join NATO, buy F-16 combat aircraft instead of Chinese machines and help Ukraine by sending it the weapons it needs to fight a war with russia.

The poliboard Argentina fanboys will be disconcerted by this.

POLITICO: "Trump's Plan for NATO Is Emerging"
Trump advisers envision a ‘radical reorientation’ in which Washington takes a back seat to Europe — and cuts a deal with Putin over Ukraine.

As part of a plan for Ukraine that has not been previously reported, the presumptive GOP nominee is mulling a deal whereby NATO commits to no further eastward expansion — specifically into Ukraine and Georgia — and negotiates with Russian President Vladimir Putin over how much Ukrainian territory Moscow can keep, according to two other Trump-aligned national security experts.

That statistical bit is why I'm not jazzed about proliferation...

I've always thought Iran and Pakistan would nuke each other.

If the west pulls back from Ukrainian side before a peace settlement, do t be surprised if you see a number of countries start a nuke program. Poland, SK, Japan, Taiwan, ect, Russia invading a neighbor for territorial gains has ended the peace period since the end of WWII where a major power has not done this.

Both China and Russia’s neighbors have to be thinking we have to have our own defense as the word won’t have our back in time of need if Russia’s aggression is not stopped.

The truth is, had Ukraine been in NATO or had nukes this war wouldn’t have started. And I would rather see countries in a defense alliance than everyone having nukes…….

No one has to worry about Georgia joining NATO, at least for the next 10 years or so. They elected a pro-Russian government and have moved away from the West. The EU just announced yesterday that they are officially terminating Georgia's application to join.

Why wouldn't Argentina do this?

I like Milei in general. If his goal is to do whats best for Argentina, sending a likely small amount of weaponry to Ukraine for a decent chance at having its defense subsidized by the US is an absolute no-brainer. There is nothing about that action that goes against his thesis.

For how it impacts us in the US, I've said numerous times we have more liabilities than assets in NATO as is, and we don't need any more.

Surely you mean India and Pakistan?

Iran and Pakistan have improved their relations. A pew research poll said most Pakistanis actually view Iran positively, one of the few nations where that is true.

Ukraine's Security Service and Defence Intelligence attack military facilities in three Russian oblasts – video

VALENTYNA ROMANENKO — Tuesday, 9 July 2024, 13:30

A joint operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) on the night of 9 July resulted in fires at the Akhtubinsk military airbase in Astrakhan Oblast of the Russian Federation, a 500kV power substation in Rostov Oblast, and an oil depot in Kalach-na-Donu in Volgograd Oblast.

Source: sources of Ukrainska Pravda in SSU and DIU

Details: During the drone attack on the Akhtubinsk military airbase, Russian Telegram channels reported the operation of the Pantsir missile system and a series of strong explosions. This information has been deleted.

The source said this indicates a successful attack, as the Russian authorities usually clean up the information space when important military targets are hit.

The source reports that the Ukrainian defence forces will continue to hit Russian military facilities helping Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Sketchy source because I have never heard of it before, but if Orban wants to play hardball, he's completely screwed if this happens. Hungary is 100% dependent on those pipelines thanks to Orban holding up another short pipeline through Croatia.

So is Trump going to guarantee the peace?

Georgia 2024 is similar to Ukraine 2014... a powderkeg with the people in the streets wanting the opposite of elected officials...

Azerbaijan seems to have used Russia's weakness in Ukraine for its own benefit and almost tricked them into allowing them to seize the disputed region they had with Armenia... but they effectively help squeeze Georgia into Russia's orbit unless they feel Russia is not useful anymore and go full out in alliance with their natural ally Turkey, especially against their natural enemy Iran.

Armenia is now trying to align itself with Europe (and Iran and China) because... it's screwed otherwise.

Azerbaijan is basically the Russian proxy holding down its influence in the Caucasus... and I think if they conclude it's not in their interests, they'll just stop.
