That sounds like last year's news. Are you sure it's current?
Yes, it's fallout from the new US sanctions announced earlier today.

their only operational new S-500 Prometheus air defense system to the area.Sounds like one hell of a juicy target for ATACMS

G7 agrees on transfer of $50 billion in profits from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine
The G7 has reached an agreement to provide Ukraine with $50 billion by the end of the year using profits from frozen Russian assets, the French presidency said on June 12 in comments reported by AFP.
"We have an agreement," a presidency official said, ahead of a G7 summit in Italy, which starts on June 13.
This is absolutely massive. AP story:
quote:
negotiators for the group have reached an agreement on how to provide Ukraine with up to $50 billion backed by frozen Russian assets.
The international group of wealthy democracies has been discussing ways of using the more than $260 billion in Russian assets frozen outside the country after the Feb. 24, 2022 invasion of Ukraine to help Kyiv.
European officials have resisted confiscating the assets, citing legal and financial stability concerns — most of the frozen assets are located in Europe — but the plan would use the interest earned on the assets to help Ukraine’s war effort. An official with the French presidency confirmed the agreement Wednesday, saying most of the money would be flowing to Ukraine in the form of a loan from the U.S. government backed by the proceeds of the frozen Russian assets in the European Union. Two other people familiar with the matter confirmed the arrangement.
Final technical negotiations were underway ahead of the summit to finalize the legal terms of the deal.
This will fund Ukraine through 2025, even if US elections this fall produce a President and/or Congress averse to providing further aid. It will substantially accelerate the defense industrial production inside Ukraine, as Ukraine becomes a significant weapons manufacturing hub. Drone R&D will only grow.
For Russia, this is every bit as big of a disaster as the US aid package earlier this spring.

I suppose that sounded better in your brain than it did as an expressed "thought"?
It was dumb joke on people's misconceptions...
I keep seeing people freaking out over a NUCLEAR SUB! It isn't carrying nuclear warheads, it's just nuclear-powered... the freak-out is silly. Whenever there's an Aircraft carrier around, it's nuclear-powered, too (well, except for the only one Russia has, that's steam-powered and hasn't been seaworthy for years)
Just as silly as the girl I saw on facebook who was mad that her landlord would not remove the microwave in her apartment, and told her "if you don't like it, don't use it." "But it uses radiation!!!" "All ovens use radiation... heat is radiation." "BUT MICROWAVES ARE NUCLEAR!!!" "No, they're actually not... it used something called a magnetron to create electromagnetic radiation, not 'nuclear radiation.' Sunlight is radiation. Any electrical device creates radiation to some degree." "OH MY GOD JUST TAKE IT OUT OF MY APARTMENT, PLEASE!" "You can break your lease. I don't think this is going to work out."

It’s an S-400 with greater range. Nothing truly special that will keep it from being overwhelmed just like any air defense system. If you send enough shite at it eventually it runs out of missiles and that’s usually when ATACMS drops in for a visit.

Russian assets funding Ukraine's fight against Russia is awesome!

Here we are coming up on mid June. When is the big Russian summer offensive going to kick off?

The Washington Post got an interview with the commander of the Ukrainian Bradley that engaged the Russian BTR in the famous game of "chicken" last week. Gift Article
The article also has some interesting details about how Ukrainians are using the Bradleys, in contrast to how the US Army uses them.

Trump appointed or hired more died in the wool swamp creatures than any president in history. And that includes George W "Swamp King" Bush himself.
But next time! Next time he's really gonna drain the swamp!
And Russia is going to start using its best stuff soon, too! They're gonna start trying!
All you have to do to believe is to just shut your lying eyes.

Probe it? The Ukes have been burning Russian SAM sites to the ground with the quickness.
From a Forbes article today:
quote:
The raid inflicted as much damage as Ukrainian planners could have realistically hoped for. Photos from the ground confirmed the two-ton ATACMS, each scattering hundreds of grenade-sized bomblets, destroyed a radar and two launchers from an S-400 air-defense battery. There were reports the rockets also damaged four warplanes at a nearby military airfield.
Belbek and Sevastopol are important bases for the Russian air force and what remains of the Russian navy’s Black Sea Fleet, so it should come as no surprise that the Russians promptly replaced the wrecked components of the S-400, whose missiles range as far as 250 miles.
And like the punchline of an explosive joke, the Ukrainians bombarded the Belbek S-400 battery again on Tuesday.
Unspecified munitions—likely the same 190-mile-range M39A1 ATACMS that hit Belbek in May—rained down on the Belbek S-400 as well as a two other nearby air-defenses batteries: another S-400 as well as a shorter-ranged S-300

And, as LSUPilot has pointed out, HARM missiles from F-16s will just give the Russian S-300 and S-400 systems another headache to deal with.
Those systems just aren't good enough.

They sure as shite haven’t figured it out yet. There’s no guard against running out of ammunition. You only have a set many number of missiles depending how many launchers are present. Ukraine sends several drones and MALD decoy missiles to light up Russian air defense radars then fires ATACMS which the S-400 has a horrendous record of intercepting to the point that it’s almost defenseless once the radar signature is detected. The missiles are fired at the incoming MALD decoys and drones then ATACMS reigns down putting hundreds of tiny holes into everything.

Interesting. Someone posted on 06/10 here that Russia had began retreating.
