85 F16s with trained crews will end the war. There is now a time-limit for Russia to negotiate on favorable terms.
Some of those are not airworthy. All of them are old. The F-16s are a huge boost to Ukraine, but they aren't going to win the war by themselves.
On a related topic, Sweden was officially told that Ukraine doesn't want Gripen right now, as they are concentrating on F-16s.
EDIT: I'm reading comments online that it will be years before Ukraine has enough pilots for the F-16s that they have been promised.

If the war is really over and Russia is close to breaking through the Ukraine lines, why is Russia planning on making 6,000 drones a year? It seems to me that the war is still a stalemate.
Ukraine gets more Western help, improves their domestic armaments, and Russia counters with help from their friends and ftom their domestic industry.
"If Ukraine is doing that well why do we need to keep sending aid?"
Same logic

multiple twitter posts mentioning this story in BILD...
(((Tendar)))
@Tendar
It has been reported by BILD that when Ukraine used Patriot missiles against Russian aerial vehicles in Bryansk back in May 13, 2023, where in a matter of minutes two Russian Mil Mi-8, one Su-34 and one Su-35 were blown out of the Russian sky, that Berlin and Washington were furious. They threatened to stop deliveries if this repeats.

This story has been lowkey circulating on the intertubes for months. I'm not 100% sure that I buy it (BILD isn't the most reliable source), as that wasn't the only time that Ukraine has used Patriot to shoot down a plane in Russian territory (remember the story about the plane supposedly carrying Ukrainian POWs?).

i think its more along the lines of trying to play both sides. defeat russia but dont piss them off too bad. its frickign stupid
either play to win or tell ukraine to sue for peace
im all for sending old weapons and letting them lose their own lives to destroy a huge chuck of russian military but dont make them fight oen hand tied behind their back either
and no frickign cash.

Bloomberg:
Jake Sullivan is going to be dragged kicking and screaming into allowing ATACMS use on Russian soil.
quote:
Ukraine must be allowed to respond to Russian missile strikes by taking out the sites they are fired from, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
“Ukraine is actually being attacked from bases in Russia,” he said on Tuesday. “We must allow them to take out the military sites the missiles are fired from, essentially the military sites from which Ukraine is attacked.”
Jake Sullivan is going to be dragged kicking and screaming into allowing ATACMS use on Russian soil.

Nah, I'm just upset that even more of my tax dollars aren't going to help a corrupt third world shithole fight off a corrupt second world shithole. I'm feeling really broken up about it today.

If you’d go to a nearby federal office building, or a nearby state or city office building, I guarantee that you’d feel better about how your money is being spent.

North Korea doesn’t have shite. I’m not sure Russia does. Dictatorships always pretend to have more than they do and think that they have more than they do.
Saddam Hussein was a classic example. He and his two sons died rather than give up weapons of mass destruction that they apparently didn’t even have! But Hussein THOUGHT he had them. Why? Because somewhere along the line he ordered a lackey to acquire them. Rather than be killed for failure, the lackey said, “Mission accomplished”, pointed to a stack of brand new turkey friars and said, “There is your WMD, boss.”
When North Korea decides it’s time to launch a real WMD that lackey is going to head for the DMZ, and the latest Kim Jung Whoever will have to content himself with disemboweling whomever brought him the badnews that not only do they not have WMD but there are no more turkeys in North Korea.
I agree...
Actually, North Korea's threats and bluster are to keep their own population scared and tolerant of starvation... they are constantly told that the only thing keeping the Evil US and West and South Korea, which has been infected with impurity and Western thought and blood, from invading North Korea and raping the real "racially pure" Koreans is Dear Leader and his mighty nukes. That's why they do random crazy shite all the time... they need the reaction to play on TV about how the West is fearful... when Trump met Kim, internally it was reported that Trump had cowered before the power of the North Korean military and wanted to make sure Kim thought he was friendly.
SLATE: North Korea: A Nation of Racist Dwarfs
My post was about how the West takes these threats...
I'd think the Pentagon would know what Russia probably can't and can pull off as far as nukes (and apparently the intel that made Biden publicly warn that Putin was going to invade Ukraine came from the US being able to listen to him plan it in the Kremlin, somehow, at least Zeihan claims that...) so when they're wary of tactical nukes, I generally think maybe there is something to it... if they detonate a tactical nuke in Ukraine, then NATO and the US respond by attacking Russia conventionally, or so they keep saying... so we're on the rollercoaster one way or another, I guess...
Xi and CHina were expected to back off a bit in support of Russia, but they just doubled down a bit... China needs an Autocratic ally, so I don't think they want Russia going away too soon.

Western fighters in Ukraine are getting killed because they assumed the war would be easy, says a US veteran who fought there
Business Insider.
I mentioned my buddy who is a Marine who served in Afghanistan and who went to Ukraine when guys from his old unit convinced him to join them there... I don't think he ended up in the same unit with any of those guys... but yeah, I mentioned previously that he said we don't understand what's going on there... that when they listen to our advisors they get fricked up, so he's not just saying Western fighters but Western brass back at the Pentagon... "we think in terms of doing things that break our opponents resolve... well, they're pumping these guys full of drugs, giving a lot of them sticks because they don't want to lose guns, putting a gun in their back and telling them to charge our positions... all day long. This will take brutality to defeat brutality."
