Cameron said Ukraine had a right to use the weapons provided by London to strike targets inside Russia, and that it was up to Kyiv whether to do so. "Ukraine has that right. Just as Russia is striking inside Ukraine, you can quite understand why Ukraine feels the need to make sure it's defending itself," Cameron told Reuters outside St. Michael's Cathedral.

This should have been allowed two years ago.

Now lets see how long it takes or even if Biden, Scholz and Macron follow through.

Ukraine needs to eliminate Belgorod.

The total number of Russian losses since the start of the conflict now stands at over 465,000

Let’s see BDI reports 465,000 Russian deaths in two years and 71 days.
365+366(leap year)+71= 802 days.

465,000 divided by 802 = 580 deaths per day on average.

Lima Whiskey reports 50,000 Russian deaths.
50,000 divided by 802 = 62 deaths per day.

Sauces???????! I guess it depends on your sauces.

I believe that is killed and wounded, not sure though. Somewhat ambiguous given their casualty definition...

"The average daily number of Russian casualties (killed and wounded)..."

Well, I didn't verify this photo/headline from today, but it's certainly happened several times before. Russia is quite capable of damaging Belgorod without Ukrainian help.

Yes, it could be, but they talk about the extreme loss of life. It is misleading, but I think the 465K is probably wounded and killed Russians.

New estimate came out yesterday:

France estimates that 150,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in the Ukraine war

France estimates that 150,000 Russian soldiers have been killed during Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said in an interview published on Friday.

quote:

"Europe and its partners will remain united and determined, for as long as necessary. Russia's military failure is already apparent. We estimate Russian military losses at 500,000, including 150,000 deaths," he said.

ISW Update

Key Takeaways:

Russian forces made a notable tactical advance northwest of Avdiivka near Arkhanhelske on the night of May 3 to 4, likely following a Ukrainian decision to withdraw from the area on May 3.

The Kremlin continues efforts to portray its unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine as something other than what it is while continuing to assert the jurisdiction of Russian federal law over sovereign states.

The Russian law enforcement conducted a search on May 4 of supporters of imprisoned Russian ultranationalist and former officer Igor Girkin (aka Strelkov) in Tula Oblast, possibly in an attempt to set information conditions to ban the movement in Russia.

Russian forces recently advanced near Avdiivka and Donetsk City and in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area.

The Kremlin is continuing its ongoing campaign to centralize control over Donetsk People’s Republic’s (DNR) irregular forces by co-opting DNR commanders and officials.

British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 05 May 2024

A 17 April 2024 decree signed by the pro-Russian governor of Zaporizhzhia Oblast states that Russia is preparing the necessary infrastructure and measures for military conscription in Russian-occupied areas of Zaporizhzhia.

This would be the first conscription drive in this temporarily occupied territory since its illegal annexation by Russia in September 2022. It is likely that Russia sees this measure as a way of satisfying the need by the Russian Armed Forces for additional personnel to support its war effort. The effect of the decree is likely to be limited given that a significant proportion of the population of Zaporizhzhia has departed. For instance in Melitopol, the largest city in Zaporizhzhia under Russian control, only 40% of the pre-war population remain and half of those consist of ethnic Russians offered work in the city.

This decree is also part of a broader campaign by the Russian authorities in the temporarily occupied territories to coerce the population to accept Russian governance. This also aligns with attempts to ensure residents have Russian Federation passports and voted in the recent Russian presidential elections. The Kremlin continues to pursue a relentless Russification policy across the temporary occupied territories of Ukraine.
